A Guest Review by Raine
Summary Review: A piece of gentle and funny erotica set inside the routine of the work place which left me smiling.
Blurb: Darren Fording works as Senior Timetabling Officer for his local college and has happily been arranging the schedules alongside his stalwart team for more than two years. When Max Sheldon arrives to take over as Acting Registrar, Darren finds himself consumed by lust for his new boss and making the kind of decisions he, as a stuck-in-his-ways administrator, has never made before.
At their first official meeting, Darren takes his courage in both hands and initiates a full-on kiss, which Max returns with enthusiasm. The encounter ends there, however, as Max is reluctant to pursue a relationship of any kind with a subordinate. Darren is equally determined not to take “no” for an answer.
When a visit by the educational inspection team goes terribly wrong, Darren must use all his wits to both save the reputation of the college he loves and to prove his worth to the man who’s beginning to mean so much to him.
Part of The Office Affair Collection.
As someone who regarded her time of office work as the wasteland years, I unexpectedly appreciated the level of entertaining but commonplace detail about the routine workings of Darren’s job as Senior Timetabling Officer for a local education college. This approach easily balanced the day dream or wank wish-fulfilment material of Darren taking a big sexual risk in the office.
Here is a man who gives order and organisation very serious consideration but does so with a light heart and a care for the people he works with. He comes across as just such a nice bloke with his own wry sense of humour that gets him through life’s rich – or otherwise – tapestry of experiences. His voice over gives this thoroughly enjoyable and very British novella a distinct flavour of Mr Ordinary Winning Through……..even if it is through to a big shag-fest. However Darren, no matter how he self deprecatingly regards himself, is no beige yea sayer. Fuelled perhaps by the emotions generated by his boldly instigated relationship he saves the day against the biggest challenge of this educational era – Ofsted.
Max is a worthy partner for Darren in this series of hot exhibitionist sexual encounters. He also brought a touch of down to earth realism with his attitude to what is happening between them. I particularly liked the warmth and kindness that both men show throughout the story, this infuses the hot sex with individuality, which of course makes it even more effective.
As I read this book I just found myself continually smiling and it left me feeling both amused and nicely content.
