Everyone at Jim Irving’s garage is gung ho about Wrench Wars, a new reality show featuring mechanics. Everyone, that is, except talented mechanic Chandler Scott, the sole employee who has refused to sign the contract. The rest of the mechanics are pressuring him too, because without Chandler—and his volatile interactions with his boss—no one’s getting on the show.

Chandler’s one ally is Jim’s son, Mark, who’s being forced to work for his dad until he pays down his student loans or finds a better job—and who’s been Chandler’s secret lover for a while.

Then a playful tryst in the garage blows up in their faces, giving the network ammo to blackmail Chandler by threatening to out Mark to his father. Now Chandler is backed into a corner, and Mark needs to decide how far he’s willing to go to protect the man who’s been sharing his bed… and may have stolen his heart.

Mechanic Last Mechanic Standing is the first of four novellas in “Wrench Wars,” the new Dreamspinner Press series written by L.A. Witt and Marie Sexton. It’s a quick sexy read about a reality show set in a garage, and two secret lovers – mechanic extraordinary Chandler Scott and Mark, the boss’s son. “They were … well, he wasn’t even sure what they were. Friends with benefits? Fuck buddies who happened to be friends?”

The plot is a bit thin but the novella moves along at a good clip. I liked the relationship between Chandler and Mark which started out casually and came to mean much more to both men, and of course L.A. Witt knows how to write great sex scenes (sex on the hood of a vintage car, anyone?) The ending neatly sets up the next book in the series (and includes a teaser chapter). I’m looking forward to the rest of the books in the Wrench Wars series!

Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.  Frederick Douglas

I distinctly remember that day in school when, all of a sudden, those squiggles on the page made sense and I could read. It has changed my life in ways I still cannot comprehend.

My favorite M/M tropes are friends-to-lovers, murder/mysteries, amnesia, hurt/healing and historicals. Shifters, vampires, paranormal? Meh … not in my wheelhouse, but I’m a sucker for a well-written well-plotted book, no matter the genre.

Favorite authors includes Brandon Witt, Rick R. Reed, Abigail Roux, Jay Northcote, JL Merrow, KJ Charles, Lane Hayes, Marshall Thornton and so many more.
