Brett Taylor’s world collapsed three years ago when he lost the love of his life. Almost as bad as the grief is the advice he’s starting to get from everyone and their brother, telling him it’s time to move on. They’re flat-out wrong. He left his career as a musician and escaped to his ranch because he needs the peace and quiet, and he’s doing just fine. He doesn’t want anyone invading his memory-filled, booze-fueled solitude.
JT Campbell’s world has been defined by his parents’ money, status, and his own empty relationships, until he’s desperately sick of it. A quest to find something meaningful leads him to Brett’s failing ranch. It’s supposed to be a brief stay. JT never wanted to be anyone’s savior or compete with the ghosts of lovers past. Still, he can’t help wanting this gruff and grieving man.
JT’s mind knows it’s a bad idea, but his heart keeps pushing him to find out what lies beneath Brett’s rough and broken exterior. Brett’s not going to make it easy. JT can only be patient, keep his sense of humor, and hope for the day he may be allowed far enough into Brett’s world to unbreak his heart.
Dang!!! Cowboys + M/M : I am feeling like a “pig in shit”!!!
This book was just too good. It made me cry and laugh and at the end I was in seventh heaven. Sweetest cowboy romance ever. The start broke my heart and had me bawling but the end pieced it back together. It was emotionally charged without being too angsty. The way the heartache and loss was dealt here was just beautiful. This book has the most polite and heart achingly sweet and wonderful cowboy ever. And that accent did something to my insidessighs
Brett Taylor has been mourning his dead partner for over three years. He lives with a huge guilt that somehow it was his fault that Walt died. He has been drowning his sorrow in whiskey and is now a recluse, living in a broken down ranch with only his foreman, Ray for company. The only other person who is concerned about pulling him out of his sorrow and help him live his life again is Brett’s feisty mother, Millie (I loved that woman!!!) Millie “kidnaps” JT from the highway and brings him to “Sharp T”, Brett’s ranch. But underneath her wish to get JT a place to stay and work, there is an ulterior motive. U can guess what that is. Millie’s matchmaking pays off as Brett starts to come out of his grief a little bit every day. JT has got it bad for the sexy, grieving cowboy but he is not sure if Brett can ever move on from Walt and love him fully. He will just have to be patient and let love work its magic!!!
The start of the read show how very much broken Brett is, still after so many years. Brett is struggling to still deal with the pain of losing “the love of his life”. JT comes into his life like a lifeline and though he is reluctant at the beginning, he eventually gives in to the new stirrings of love in his broken heart.
JT was so patient and understanding and sweet on Brett, he won my heart. He never pushes for more and perfectly understands what Brett needs any time. His patience and understanding helps Brett in overcoming so many hurdles that has been crushing him for too long. JT was just the sweetest.
Besides the MCs, we have two very awesome secondary characters, who make this story all the more beautiful. Mille Taylor is a woman after my own heart. She was pushy with no boundaries but her feisty no-nonsense attitude helps bring JT and Brett together with life altering results. She treats her 41 year old son as a kid and it was seriously fun to read as she bends a reluctant Brett to her wishes. Then there was Ray. He was like a father and a friend to Brett. He has been a part of Brett’s life for a long time and had a front row seat to Brett’s pain and loss. I loved him. He is a comforting presence in Brett’s life and their banter always cracked me up.
Last but not the least, there is Walt. His presence can be felt throughout the book. Brett’s letters to him were touching and heart-rending. Throughout the story we get to know more about the guy who had changed Brett’s life for the better in every way.
“I still miss you. I’ll always love you, and but JT’s convinced me that I have room enough to love the both of you at the same time. I think you’d be okay with that.”
The ending was perfect. The romance hits a rough spot due to a misunderstanding, which gets cleared up without any prolonged drama or angst. It was a hurdle that they both had to cross to move on completely to their new future together.
This is a slow building romance. I loved the beautiful balance created between the pain/loss and the love/healing. It was sweet and hot. Loved this book!!!
