Politics, puppy dogs, and passion, oh my!

When his Republican opponent outs him with a photo in a Facebook post, Senator Samuel Dalton doesn’t have many options open to him. It doesn’t matter that the photo is totally innocent. He has no choice but to come clean… until his staff suggest putting a spin on it that leaves Sam reeling.

Sure, he’ll end up with a lot of sympathy, not to mention the possibility of more voters from the LGBT community, but it still seems a pretty drastic solution.

Now all they have to do is persuade Gary, the other man in the photo, to play along. It sounds so easy: convince the constituents of North Carolina that he and Sam are engaged.

No big deal, except for the fact that they’ve only just met….

This book had lots of feel good fluff, It’s the kind of book that you read while in bed with the covers rolled up and caramel tea next to you. I might not have read this while in bed… I read it while on the bus, but it made my day.

Sam is the senator of North Carolina, a very conservative place and while I didn’t think he was in the closet per se, I felt he had never really had the chance nor seen the point of coming out. I loved sam, he was sweet, kind, a bit shy and a closeted virgin. The last part is kinda adorable 🙂 I felt like apart from not wanting the tabloid to have a field day ruining his career with headlines like “Senator Samuel’s gay ex-boyfriend tells all in an exclusive expose with Gossip girl” Sam never really came out because no one ever caught his eye.

And then came Gary! I’m a big fan of the fake boyfriend/husband trope, and K.C wrote this book beautifully. I even loved ‘the douchebag who shall not be named‘ even when he kept using religion and ‘the sanctity of marriage’ against Sam and Gary.
I wished I got to know Gary more, while it was a sweet story, the only thing I knew about Gary was that he’s gay and agreed to be engaged to Sam to win some votes from the LGBT community and of course pay his college debts.
My review would not be complete without a few line about Sam’s mother, because who else would buy her virgin son strawberry flavored lube, and condoms for when he finally gets laid. Seriously, she is the best, she is also kind of scary but in a good way.
