Liam Young has a problem – he’s booked a romantic holiday to Rio de Janeiro months ago, but when he breaks up with his boyfriend, all his plans fall apart. Not only is his dream holiday slipping through his fingers, but Liam is tired of getting his heart broken.
Blaine Reed has a solution that can save Liam’s plans. Recently divorced, Blaine needs a break, and a couple of stress-free weeks in Rio with a sexy guy like Liam sound like heaven.
Liam and Blaine hit it off right from the start, becoming good friends even before they’ve left London. Despite their efforts to ignore the simmering attraction between them, it boils over when they end up sharing a room in one of the most romantic cities in the world.
Being together in Rio is easy, and it’s exactly what Liam needs – no feelings, no drama, nobody getting hurt.
Until someone does.
All in all, this was a pleasant read, but there were some things that took a lot of my enjoyment out. Like:
~The grand gesture in the end was amazing but
- IMO it was made by the “wrong MC”. Liam should have grovelled instead of Blaine chasing him.
~The ending felt abrupt.
~I felt that Blaine’s evasiveness to reveal his sexuality in the first 20% was manufactured. They had become such good friends, and there were a lot of opportunities. What stopped him?
~Hayden, Blaine’s friend. Although he was mentioned a handful of times, he rubbed me the wrong way, especially in the beginning.
On the other hand, I think that the author did justice to the setting. There is a very strong sense of place, and Rio’s people and magic atmosphere are very vividly depicted.
I loved the way (and the reason/excuse) these two met, and the friendship they formed at first. It felt realistic and natural. The steam was great too.
Overall, it was a nice, sweet romance that could have worked a lot better for me, if it weren’t for these few things mentioned above.
