What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

My parents were avid readers. I grew up surrounded by paperbacks in practically every genre imaginable! Being exposed to the written word from an early age gave me an appreciation for language and communication I’m grateful for as a reader and an author. The power of language is far reaching. It begins when we’re very young with classic children’s books like Goodnight Moon. Think about it. The telling of a slow and methodical ritual accompanied by brilliant illustration setting the tone visually, is masterful in a ‘less is more’ approach.

My appreciation for language began with books like The Giving Tree and even the Nancy Drew series. However, when I started reading literary classics as a teen, I was captivated by dynamic prose of works like, Rebecca, The House of Mirth, The Woman in White, The Awakening, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility. Exposure to sophisticated language specific to the time they were written but with a message that resonated today was magic to me. It still is.

In the social media age, we should all be cognizant of the power of language. Savvy ads aimed at attracting an optimal consumer are run with well-thought precision. Truck ads and Viagra commercials reign during sporting events. “Family friendly” ads run during children’s programming and cellular commercials…oh, they run all the damn time! And don’t get me started on election ads. Yikes.

If we pay attention, we notice patterns of communication. Language has the power to start revolutions. Sometimes it’s a matter of pretty persuasion versus brute force, but the truly masterful writer knows how to use words that make a difference.

Thank you so much for having me here today! Happy Reading!

Music is drummer Tim Chalmers’s great escape and the one thing that’s never let him down. But his band Spiral’s meteoric rise to fame has made it difficult for him to maintain a low profile. Unwanted press pesters him after a public breakup with a volatile ex-girlfriend who loves the limelight as much as he loathes it. Tim’s main goal is to avoid confrontation. However, when a handsome stranger in a dive bar turns out to be someone he might know, everything changes.

Carter Hamilton-Temple might be a successful financial consultant with more brains, sophistication, and charm than most, but he always falls for the wrong guys: closet cases or men with issues. He can’t fight his attraction to tattooed rock star Tim, but can he trust his own judgment? When the thrill of danger combined with a fierce physical connection proves too strong for either man to resist, a quiet liaison away from the public eye and curious friends seems like a safe bet. But some secrets are hard to keep. When rumors threaten to rock his world, Tim realizes it’s time to confront his fear with his own kind of honesty.

“What kind of a rock star are you? You’re supposed to love sex, drugs, and alcohol. I haven’t known you long, but you seem to only really like one out of three,” Carter commented idly as he shuffled the cards.

“You’re right. I’m a sucky rock star. I rarely have more than one drink when I go out for dinner or even at a bar. Two at a party. Anything more usually leads to trouble. And I never take drugs. Even cold medicine makes me nervous.” I winked and gave him a lecherous grin that no doubt looked far from provocative in my current condition. “But I love sex.”

I love a man in uniform! Cops, Firefighters, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, they are my favorite! I also love some angst in a good story and friends-to-lovers. M/M erotica alone doesn’t do it for me. It’s gotta have a story and some conflict. BDSM when I’m in that mood and threesomes with 3 men or 2 men and 1 woman, again when the mood strikes. Hetero? Sure, if it’s really good. HEA ONLY!
