Massage therapist Joe Wells is in a little over his head with his first job at the posh Magic Touch Sports Spa. He’s also secretly falling for his friendly, sexy coworker, the top-notch masseur Andre Swift. All the clients clamor for Andre, and so far none have taken to Joe.
On the verge of being fired, Joe saves the life of a mysterious kitten belonging to a white witch, who grants him a wish: a magic touch that could save his job and maybe even win him Andre’s love and respect. As Joe’s stock at the spa rises to crazy and barely manageable levels of success, demand for Andre’s services drops off. Will Joe lose Andre to an out-of-control spell? Or worse—Andre’s love might prove to be only a result of the magic, just like Joe’s sudden talent.
Can magic influence love? Can a man trust in love more than magic?
Joe has only been out of massage therapy school for three months. He really wanted to succeed at his new job at Magic Touch Sports Spa, but his crushing on Andre sometimes got in the way. A customer complains about Joe’s technique and Andre overhears the tirade going on in the lobby. Andre talks to Joe and offers his help. Joe meets Andre at his apartment and things get a little embarrassing for Joe and he flees. On his way home he rescues a cat from a garbage can and returns him to his owner who happens to be a white witch. She gives Joe one wish which he reluctantly takes.
The next day Joe has his best day ever. The customer who complained about him the day before turns into his biggest fan. Word of mouth spreads about his magic touch and customers line up to see him. Andre joins Joe volunteering at the hospital and afterwards they go back to Andre’s place for a night of passion which turns into declaring their love for each other.
Andre’s Client List has been dwindling due to Joe’s popularity. One day, Andre gets a client who complains loudly about his technique. Words are exchanged that include the boss and the boss ends up firing Andre. This crushes Joe and makes him feel responsible because Andre’s clients moved over to Joe.
Joe has been feeling insecure about Andre’s love for him. He believes that it was the magic wish that influenced Andre. He has a hard time believing that Andre could really truly love him. Andre one day has had enough of those insecurities and they break up. Joe runs home to find the White Witch and she ends up telling him that the magic only lasted for like an hour. So, all this time it was Joe’s confidence in himself and his massage techniques that got him all the clients and Andre’s love for him was true. Joe goes back to Andre’s apartment and they make up, Andre announces that he got a new job at the hospital, and they have their happily ever after.
The plot is light-hearted, whimsical, and pulls at your heartstrings. One thing I got from this plot was if a situation seems too good to be true it just could be true. Follow your heart.
The author has such a way with character development that I was riding the roller coaster with Joe. His feelings were so up and down.
The pacing of the story was great. It had just the right amount of highs and lows. It even had a break up with a makeup. I really feel it had a perfect balance.
The ending was a little short and abrupt, but I do appreciate the happy ending. I love that Andre got a new job, that they made up, and that Joe learned the truth about magic and about Andre’s feelings. So, the ending was a wonderful wrap up.
I do recommend this book. If you want a short story that you can read in a day or two, if you want a wonderful love story that has a hint of magic in it, and if you want to see a guy so down on himself rise to the top, then this is the perfect book for you.
