Bad boy and former NFL running back Patrick Guinness is tired of meaningless sex. Ever since his scorching hot one-night stand three years ago, no one has interested him. So when Max Segreti wanders into his mechanic shop—and his life again—Patrick can’t stop thinking about the totally-out-of-his-league law grad and the possibility of getting him out of his system once and for all…
Max Segreti has spent his entire life doing what his father wants. But when he runs into the hotter-than-hell player he’s never been able to forget, he’s not thinking about studying for the bar. A distraction is the last thing he needs, but after an encounter leaves him wanting more, Max embraces the chaos that Patrick brings…even as he knows it can’t last. They’re too different to ever have a future together.

Three years ago a chance encounter brings Patrick Guinness and Max Segreti together. They only had one night of mind-numbing passion before they go their separate ways. That one night remains the best sexual encounter they both ever had and had since set the bar for every encounter they had with anyone else.

When their life coincides again sparks fly almost instantly. But even if they give in to their physical attraction there are issues that need to be brought out in the open and resolved before they can get their HEA.

Patrick Guinness is a former NFL player whose glory days lasted for only two years before his injured knee ended his career. He is now struggling to run a business, look after his teenage brother as well as cope with the loss of his father. His life has taken a downward slide but he does not have any regrets. He does not linger on “what-if”s. Patrick never did plan for this future but he is happy with what he got.

Max Segreti has always lived a life fueled by his father’s expectations. He has kept his sexuality under wraps because his father orders him to. After finishing law school he is all set to take his bar exam and work in his father’s firm. His career is where he has always planned it to be but his personal life is not something to write home about.

When Max meets Patrick once again their chemistry sizzles and crackles like no time has passed at all.

Patrick holds back from completely giving in to the lure of Max because of the huge gap between their social standing. He does not want to risk his heart coz he thinks he is nothing but a “ride on the wild side” for Max.

Max’s asshole father and his rules to keep Max permanently in the closet do not help matters. But Max stands up to him eventually and I was happy to see that Segreti sr making an effort to accept the truth about his son and welcoming Patrick into the family.

There is a ton of miscommunication that keeps on fueling PG’s insecurities. His surly, teenage brother also adds fuel to his doubts coz he is hurt and scared of losing his big brother. I loved the interaction between the brothers. PG loved Liam and vice versa. PG tries his best to protect Liam while also floundering with the responsibilities of parenting a teenager.

The romance is very predictable but very nice to read nonetheless. Max and PG’s chemistry lit up the pages time and again. The angst was there in high doses too but it all culminates into a very sweet HEA, which I absolutely loved.
