Gay Book Review is thrilled to welcome Santino Hassell and Megan Erickson to the blog today chatting about their newest release Hard Wired.
Which Cyberlove MC would you want as a boyfriend?
Megan: Luke! He’s so grumpy but he’s protective and is good in bed (lol)
Santino: …Also Luke! Damn it, Megan. Now we have to fight for him. I’d also be okay with Costigan, I think because he’d bring me out of my hermitude, but a lot of the characters are a little young for me.
How often each week do the two of you write together as you’re working on a joint story?
Megan: When we’re working today on a story, we probably work 4-7 days out of the week on it.
Will Santino make any more surprise appearances at cons this year?
Will Adriana and Micah get their own book?
Megan: We hadn’t planned on it at all, but we do get asked about them. Maybe we’ll write up a short story for them. 🙂
Do you have plans to collaborate some more once the Cyberlove Series ends?
Megan: We do have an idea for another series! Maybe…
Santino: Very exciting ideas. 😉 We’re being vague because it’s very very early stages of talking about it without any real plans.
Will Bram (from Hard Wired) possibly get his own book? I felt bad for him.
Megan: We haven’t thought about it, but we never rule anything out!
What’s next for you guys as a writing duo and individually?
Megan: I’m working on the next in my Silver Tip Pack series, and I also start a vampire series this fall. Together, Santino and I are working on the next in the Cyberlove series.
Santino: INSIGHT, the first book in The Community trilogy, is coming out in March. There will be more Five Boroughs in May, and like Megan said–more Cyberlove although we don’t have a release date in mind or even a month.
What’s the best memory (so far) you have of writing together?
Megan: Probably back when we were writing Strong Signal and watching Twitch. We used to talk every night and watch different Twitch streams. It was a blast. 🙂
Santino: Drunk planning together while eating nachos at 3AM!
Do you have a set number of stories planned for the series, or will it be open ended?
Megan: Right now we have ideas for two more books.
Santino: You meet two of the MCs in HARD WIRED.
How did your collaboration start? Who tossed the idea?
Megan: Based on something my husband said, I had an idea for a story about a camgirl on Twitch and a member of her Chat. But the idea just wasn’t gelling. I ran it by Santino and we started chatting about it. And it just… evolved into Strong Signal. Then we just started writing it.
Did it take a lot of research for the Cyberlove series or are you gaymers yourselves?
Santino: We’re both associated with geek culture and computers and gaming. Megan is super into vloggers and was the one to tell me about Twitch, but I’ve been a pretty serious gamer my entire life even though I don’t have much time for it now.

My FallenCon agenda is simple: sit on a couple of panels and let people meet the real me. Jesse Garvy—mod of a famous Twitch channel and, if I ever come out of my shell, future vlogger. I definitely didn’t plan to sleep with a moody tattooed fan-artist, but he’s gorgeous and can’t keep his hands off me. There’s a first time for everything, and my first time with a guy turns out to be the hottest experience of my life.
But the next day, I find out my moody fan-artist is Ian Larsen AKA Cherry—someone I’ve known online for years. And he’d known exactly who I was while shoving me up against that wall. Before I figure out whether to be pissed or flattered, the con ends.
Now we’re back online, and he’s acting like nothing happened. But despite the distance between us, and the way he clings to the safety of his online persona, we made a real connection that night. I don’t plan to let him forget.
Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into an unlikely romance author.
Santino writes queer romance that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.
More From Santino
Megan Erickson is a former journalist who switched to fiction when she decided she liked writing her own endings better. She likes to pretend she has control now, but usually her characters are the ones who hold the reins. Her romance novels have a touch of humor, a dash of nerdy, and always a happily ever after.
She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kids, and two cats named after John Hughes characters. She’s still waiting for the party she was promised when she grew to five feet… maybe because she never got there.
