Love or hate. Life or death. No inbetween. No compromise. No rules in love and war.

*

Knight. Party monster. Handsome Savage. Doesn’t do monogamy.
Elliot. Obsessive. Intense. Uncompromising.

Newly single, Knight is done with relationships. All he’s interested in is bringing down The Count, an Internet personality who is tarnishing his family name. An opportunity to crush him comes when the audacious clown shows up at the Kings of Hell MC clubhouse to film for his YouTube channel. But when Knight meets Elliot, the man behind The Count, he no longer knows what to do with him.

Knight has never seen a more pathetic creature than Elliot. He’s also never met anyone who needed him more. Skinny, messed up, and a bucket of trouble as thick as tar, everything Elliot does seems to be a wordless death wish. No matter how much Knight hates Elliot’s alter ego, under the makeup and theatrics hides a fragile young guy with a passion for history, and Knight can’t help but catch Elliot every time he falls.

Elliot has bad taste in men. Always hopelessly attracted to violent brutes, his favorite is a long dead serial killer. But he gets more than he’s bargained for when he seizes an opportunity to meet the man of his dreams. The ghost is manipulative and dangerous, offering Elliot all he’s always wanted, for a price he can’t possibly pay.

Elliot is faced with an impossible choice between two men.
One alive, one dead.
One carnal and honest, one drizzling sweet, poisoned promises into his ear.
One unwilling to commit, the other promising an eternity together.
And Elliot doesn’t settle for half-measures. He craves a love that is all or nothing, passion that will consume him, and desire to burn him alive.
Elliot is ready to either get that, or die trying.

4.5 stars

Imaginative, disturbing, insane, intense but with a dash of humour, and gruesomely beautiful, My Dark Knight is a masterpiece, if dark romance is your thing. K.A.Merikan’s ability to write romance that can be found in the most impossible places, between the most twisted characters will never cease to amaze me. My Dark Knight is this kind of story. But make no mistake, it is romance.

Sometimes sweet….

“Never let me go,” Elliot whispered.[…]

“I won’t. I love you.” Elliot kissed Knight under the jaw, and it was so sweet it made Knight’s body tremble.

Sometimes dirty…

“For Knight, he could totally be a slut, a bitch, and a fuckhole. Every day. All day.”

Sometimes skin crawling…

“I’m all yours. Anything you want is yours. You can fucking skin me and wear me as your new cut. I don’t care.”

The dichotomy in Elliot’s character is magnificent. I understood early on that The Count, Elliot’s alter ego who worships William Fane, is just façade, a way for Elliot to hide his self esteem and the hurt from years and years of abuse. Still, though, I had no idea how I’d manage to sympathize or at least care for him as a character, because well…he was in love with a serial killer!

I needn’t have worried. The authors did an amazing job redeeming him. I will not spoil the story, but trust me, Elliot learnt his lesson. There will be only one person for Elliot from now on…his dark knight.

Knight got his nickname because of his need to protect others. And how can he resist when he finds out who hides behind The Count? Knight might be a self-proclaimed whore, but I honestly didn’t see that in this book. Elliot was supposed to be the obsessive one, but it was clear that the commitment issues were only in Knight’s head, and that as soon as he got together with Elliot, there was nobody else for him.

I adore the secondary characters in this series. Laurent still loves plastic, and Beast still loves Laurent! I’m so looking forward to Jack’s story. And Gray is very intriguing as well.

Kings of Hell is one of my favorite series, which I never thought possible because I rarely do paranormal, and the paranormal element is very present here. It’s not just the demon now, there are ghosts as well. Sometimes they flash their boobs too!

I recommend against reading this as a standalone. The romance might make some sense to you, but I suggest you read Laurent and the Beast first, to get a proper feel of the setting.

Needless to say, highly recommended!

I read MM romance almost exclusively. As a reader I don’t have any hard limits except incest. I like Contemporary and Historicals and I rarely read Paranormal unless recommended…

  • Fantastic review and totally in agreement with you. Plus I wanted to add that these authors have improved significantly since Guns&Boys’ period y’know (way less stereotypes, now you can feel the characters as more “realistic” and the plot more inspired), Laurent & the Beast in my opinion is in a league of its own: (also this new MDN seems really promising as far as I’ve managed to read), so I definitely suggest you read this new series, since it’s one of their best material.

If you appreciate bad boys, a spooky paranormal vibe (with an European feel to it??????), hot romance?? and Merikan’s unpredictable brand of style+humor? don’t hesitate, this will be right up your alley!?

    • Hey there;) There is no book by K.A.Merikan that I haven’t read or that I don’t plan on reading. These ladies are my favorite writing duo and I follow their work from the very beginning. I’m a big fan of Guns&Boys actually. Sure, there are stereotypes but I think they ‘re meant to be there. Traditional, Italian guys and all.

  • I’m a huge fan of K.A. Merikan’s Guns n’ Boys and Sex & Mayhem books. I already have Laurent and the Beast on my Kindle. Just haven’t started it yet. Might have to move it up on the list so I can get My Dark Knight too. Your review has me very excited about this new series. 🙂
