Danger in the air. Lovers on the brink.
With the justiciary understaffed, a series of horrifying occult murders to be investigated, and a young student who is flying—literally—off the rails, magical law enforcer Stephen Day is under increasing stress. And his relationship with his aristocratic lover, Lord Crane, is beginning to feel the strain.
Crane chafes at the restrictions of England’s laws, and there’s a worrying development in the blood-and-sex bond he shares with Stephen. A development that makes a sensible man question if they should be together at all.
When a thief strikes at the heart of Crane’s home, a devastating loss brings his closest relationships into bitter conflict—especially his relationship with Stephen. And as old enemies, new enemies, and unexpected enemies paint the lovers into a corner, the pressure threatens to tear them apart.
Warning: Contains hot-blooded sex, cold-blooded murder, sinister magical goings-on and a lot of swearing.
The third book in the Charm of Magpie Series ended up being my favorite. It was the best end, to a great series.
This series confirms what I already knew; K.J.Charles is one of the most talented writers out there. I’m not into magic or fantasy especially when it’s paired with historical romance. But I read all three books back to back, and I’m planning on reading Jackdaw next, and this speaks volumes.
As far as the romance is concern, the conclusion of the story left me deeply satisfied. Despite the amazing chemistry between Stephen and Lucien, their relationship has always been shaky and the ending in the previous books was somewhat unsettling. But here, the HEA is solid and sparklier than ever. I loved the passionate way in which they dealed with the problems in their relationship and the external threats.
About the mystery/action….damn but I can’t get over how insanely brilliant the word-building and the plot is! It doesn’t let you breathe; very fast paced, complex but it pulls you in effortlessly, and so imaginative. I liked that it also wrapped up some loose ends from books 1 and 2.
The sex scenes are very emotional and scorching hot. Very integral to the plot too.
There is no doubt about it, this is one of the best paranormal MM series ever, and I’m looking forward to reading more stories in the “Charm of Magpie” universe.
