Joel has finally walked away from his abusive ex and is ready to meet new people. But that isn’t easy for a guy who’s shy, self-conscious, and struggling with his body image.

Andre has wanted Joel since the first time he laid eyes on him, and finally Joel is single. But Andre is a Dom and a sadist, and Joel is unapologetically vanilla. There’s no happy medium—either Andre reins in the kinky side that took him years to accept, or Joel grits his teeth and subjects himself to kinks that aren’t his thing. No matter who bends, someone’s going to be unhappy.

They agree to walk away, but they keep circling back to each other. Though their kinks might not line up, the chemistry between them sizzles and the emotional connection keeps getting deeper. But none of that will get them anywhere if they can’t find some kind of middle ground in the bedroom.

Oh, how I adore LA Witt! All of her books get either 4 or 5 stars from me. I love her kink, passion, sex scenes and writing style. I did enjoy this book, but I admit it was my least favorite of all the ones I have read to date.

A good portion of the story that bothered me was the length. Joel is recovering from an abusive D/s relationship but we’re never told the details of what exactly went wrong, other than his Dom was a self serving ass. There wasn’t enough time in the book to go into that.

I loved Joel and Andre both very much. Andre was a sweet, understating Dom who respected Joel’s boundaries 100% and the sex was romantic with bits of the nasty thrown in. Again, we didn’t have a lot of time to explore this sexual or personal relationship fully.

The ending threw me for a loop! Joel comes up with a solution for their incompatibility that would allow them to keep seeing each other even though they are incompatible with their kinks.

Spoiler
Joel suggests an open relationship so Andre can get his kinks fulfilled while they continue their vanilla relationship (which includes kinky sprinkles like handcuffs and blindfolds). We already know Andre can scene with a partner without turning it into a sexual release, so I would have hoped they would discuss that, but they don’t. I would have liked to see just how this open relationship played out in real-time, but the book ended after they agreed on the compromise.

So, no HEA for now, but a tiny bit of HFN. Recommended with caution.

Author

I love a man in uniform! Cops, Firefighters, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, they are my favorite! I also love some angst in a good story and friends-to-lovers. M/M erotica alone doesn’t do it for me. It’s gotta have a story and some conflict. BDSM when I’m in that mood and threesomes with 3 men or 2 men and 1 woman, again when the mood strikes. Hetero? Sure, if it’s really good. HEA ONLY!
