Christmas is fast approaching and Kade’s parents have abandoned him for the holiday. Thankfully his best friend, Byron, invites him to spend the holidays with him and his family. That night, in the dim glow of the Christmas tree’s lights, Byron and Kade share a kiss, but Byron backs off before it can go further.

Can Kade stand up for what he wants and convince Byron he’s not so easily broken, or will he need a Christmas miracle to bring them together?

I wasn’t too sure about this one when I started it. The first page confused me a bit and I couldn’t quite figure out who was doing what and why. But I was glad things were starting to make sense and I ended up really liking it.

This is not a fluffy holiday story. It was more angsty than the once I’ve read this year, but it was good. And had a lovely HEA.

Kade and Byron have been best friends for years, and Kade has been deeply in love with Byron for quite some time. But Kade knows Byron couldn’t possibly want him. When Byron asks Kade to help him make Christmas dinner for his family, Kade agrees. Kade’s parents decided to go on a cruise so it’s not like Kade has anything better to do.

When the two friends are watching a movie on Christmas Eve, something changes between them and they share a kiss. But Byron immediately tells Kade they shouldn’t do this because Byron doesn’t want to hurt Kade. And Kade just knows this has to do with Kade’s depression. Now he has to find a way to make Byron see he’s not going to hurt Kade…

Kade was a wonderful character to be for a while. His thoughts felt heavy, but not overwhelmingly sad. Yes, he had depression, but didn’t let that stop him. I just wanted to give him lots of hugs.

This was a sweet friends-to-lovers story, with some angst and a pretty decent sex scene at the end.

Definitely recommended to get into the holiday spirit.
