Saying “I love you” doesn’t guarantee peace or a happy ending.

High School Principal “Larx” Larkin was pretty sure he’d hit the jackpot when Deputy Sherriff Aaron George moved in with him, merging their two families as seamlessly as the chaos around them could possibly allow.

But when Larx’s pregnant daughter comes home unexpectedly and two of Larx’s students are put in danger, their tentative beginning comes crashing down around their ears.

Larx thought he was okay with the dangers of Aaron’s job, and Aaron thought he was okay with Larx’s daughter—who is not okay—but when their worst fears are almost realized, it puts their hearts and their lives to the test. Larx and Aaron have never wanted anything as badly as they want a life together. Will they be able to make it work when the world is working hard to keep them apart?

Talk about a book that has a lot going on. I do not honestly think that these two men, Larx or Aaron, get a moment of peace in this book.

Larx is the high school principal and Aaron is one the town’s deputies. These two men together have made a makeshift family combining their children and even adopting one as their own. Their lives are crazy and hectic but both men thrive on the life that they are building together. They could not be happier.

Or at least that is until it is all threatened. First things first, Olivia comes home from college sooner than expected and has brought with her a huge bag of depression. This takes the wind out of Larx because he is at a stand still on how to help his daughter who is not only suffering from major depression but also pregnant.

Then to make things worse for everyone, one, if not two, of his students is in danger. Aaron is the first to bring this to Larx’s attention but after he and his best friend Yoshi (the vice principal) both speak with the girl who is in trouble, Candace, and her neighbor Jamie that has been caught in the crossfire, they realize they have a serious situation on their hands. Aaron and Larx both realize that if someone does not step in then something major is going to happen and it will not be good.

So a plan is formed but before anything can be executed, all hell breaks lose. And with the situation being what it is, someone is not going to come out standing.

This book was an incredible read. There is not a dull moment in this book. It is chaotic and very real life. I truly enjoyed every moment of this book. Both the good and the bad. I truly look forward to the next book in this series as soon as Amy Lane has it ready.

Author

Hello, I am an avid reader of male/male books. I do not have a favorite genre when it comes to male/male books because I love all of them from romance, dark reads, paranormal, shifter, threesome, whatever I see that catches my eye at the time.

I read books about rock stars, CEOs, military, cops, and just the original plain old good boy types of books.

Basically when it comes to a book, I read whatever I am in the mood for at the time. So my tastes varies from day to day and sometimes even hour to hour.

  • I have Bonfires on my Kindle, but haven’t read it yet. Your review makes me want to do that soon so I can start Crocus. 🙂
