Gifted power over life and death, Lysandros has spent millennia in the underworld, listless and alone. The youngest child of Hades and Persephone, he’s been sheltered from the threats in the world above.
Theo Ward hasn’t been so lucky. After watching his mother wither away, he’d do almost anything to have her back. When a messenger appears at the Banneker College of Magic and offers the young professor a chance to save her, Theo can’t pass it up, even if it means going straight into the underworld and dragging her home. But Theo gets more than he bargained for when he crosses paths with the prince of Hades.
Set against the king of Olympus, they must shed their past burdens and learn to trust in each other, so they can face down a storm that threatens to wipe the nation’s capital off the map.
This was so much better of a read than I expected it to be. I was pleasantly surprised. At first when I started reading it, I did not think I would be able to get into this read. Though I love a good scifi/paranormal read, the first few pages did not seem to catch me like most books do. But I pushed through and found this book got so much better as I read on. Now I look forward to the next book in this series when it comes out.
Theo is a teacher at one of the magical schools. But he is more of the teacher that teaches his college students the practical value of being able to siphon ambient magical energy than a teacher that actually does magic. To most this is not the class they truly want but still it is the class Theo teaches. He is hoping to get a promotion and his own office but he is also realistic and knows the other Professor, Wilder, will probably get it since his class is so much more popular.
Though he is a teacher, he is lonely in his personal life. Since he lost his mom and has only a hand full of close friends, he does not get out much. All of this is about to change when a mysterious delivery with his name on it arrives. It is a very old book that leads Theo on an unexpected journey to the Underworld.
Theo has always heard the stories of GODS and Olympians but never really thought much of it being real until he reaches the Underworld and meets a whole slew of Gods. One God in particular caught his eye, Lysandros.
Lysandros does not travel above often. He is not one to put himself out there after a past experience. When a mortal shows up in the Underworld, Lysandros is intrigued by him but also very wary as well. After getting Theo back to where he belongs Lysandros thinks this may be the last he sees of him. But that is not to be the case because Lysandros has a very nosy sister who goes above and invites Theo to the Underworlds Halloween party.
This is where everything is going to change forever for Theo and Lysandros. The question is, will that be a good change or a bad one? What happens when they figure out someone is trying to harm the world above? Can these two men from different times and worlds figure out a way to make things work between them?
This was a really good read once I got past the first few pages. Sam Burns did an incredible job on this book. I really enjoyed it and look forward to more in this series in the future.
