Trick and Bast are back in this sequel to Need but Bast has now renamed Trick “Chosen” to reflect his new status as Bast’s chosen one. They are still together, playing, and even more deeply in love than before.

But there are clouds looming on the horizon. Trick needs sunlight occasionally and Bast is upset whenever he awakes and Trick is not around because he is “catching some rays”. Also, now that Bast only feeds from Trick their friends are apprehensive. They don’t understand the attachment between Bast and his chosen who they feel is in danger, and this leads to a scene in Bast’s apartment where he shows his true possessive vampire nature.

Need Series

Chosen covers the next decades of these two characters’ lives and the evolution of their love. They have a special relationship and an unusual bond and the love is so strong and profound that the reader cannot help but be affected by their deep emotions. This is very a sensuous book and the heat level is off the scale with frequent passionate and sizzling sex, but I felt that there could have been a bit more communication between Bast and Trick who are almost always in bed, in the shower or in a dozen other places making love and trying to make each other crazy with lust. While there is much more emphasis here on the sex between Trick and Bast, Sean Michael deftly interlaces the passion with insights into their lives and the changes that occur as Trick ages. He skillfully touches on Trick’s worry that his lover will no longer want him because he is looking and getting older and he may no longer be able to keep him happy or fed.

Chosen is very intense and the emotions that are exposed in the book seem very real and parallel the changes in Trick and Bast. Sean Michael has done his usual excellent job of portraying the deep love and affection between his characters and wraps up the story with a very satisfying and credible ending.
