Kasey Johnson is a professional basketball player who also happens to be gay but he keeps his sexual preference under the radar because he doesn’t want any negative effects on either his playing career or endorsements. He has recently been traded to the major league franchise in Phoenix and a couple of the players on his new team who suspect his sexual orientation have subjected him to the usual taunts, which lately have been getting worse.
Ingram Fletcher, the owner of a local gay night club where celebrities hang out, has lusted after Kasey since the first time he saw him a year ago but he hasn’t approached him because he doesn’t know if he would welcome his advances. One night Kasey and his twin brother Garrett drop in to Gram’s night club for a bit of fun but Kasey is too tired to party. Gram sees Kasey lying on the couch and goes over to talk to him; one thing leads to another and they end up in Gram’s office having their own party.
Kasey knows that even with the incredible passion he feels for Gram and the mind blowing sex he can’t afford to be seen with him or his career may well be over. At first he tries to play it cool but soon their feelings for each other reach the boiling point and he has to decide whether to continue the relationship or stop seeing Gram, to protect his career. Then he runs out of time as he is selected to play in the All-Star Game out of town and he invites Gram to go with him. Will Kasey have the courage to step up, be a man and acknowledge Gram as his lover, knowing the impact this will have on his career? You will have to read this terrific book to find out.
Out of Bounds is Book 1 of the Love of Sports series and what a wonderful introduction it is. Both Kasey and Gram are great characters that are warm and loving and I thought that T.A. Chase did a brilliant job of getting the right balance between Kasey, the gifted basketball player and Gram, the slightly older love interest who always had his back. This is one book that I will read again more than once and I highly recommend it as a great addition to the bookshelves of T.A. Chase’s fans as well as readers unfamiliar with his work. I can’t wait for Book 2 in this series.
