Adrian owns a successful comic shop, The Fantastic Five, and spends all of his time in the world of super heroes and aliens. When an action figure he is repairing one evening comes to life, he is not surprised and feels an instant attraction to the man.
Mack has been waiting for decades to come back after being killed in Viet Nam during a brutal mission. The Toymaker upstairs had promised him a new life and mission, and when Adrian gently repairs his broken body and gives him fresh legs he feels a connection to him. Mack remembers being at the bottom of a cardboard box for years waiting, for what and why he didn’t know. He did know that the box would be opened sometime in the future and he would be taken out to pursue his own mission. When he meets Adrian he recognizes that he is his mission.
The first time they have sex Mack realizes that he wants Adrian to believe in love and fall in love with him, but he has to teach him how to love. Adrian on the other hand is being transformed by having Mack in his life. He’s eager to change from his contained, repressed self so that he can embrace Mack and have him mend his broken heart
Mission: CARNAL is a wonderful story about the effect that one person can have on another’s life. Ms Winter does a terrific job on characterization and demonstrates how love can have an indelible impact on two unlikely lovers as they become each other’s hero. This is Book 1 in Mary Winter’s Live Action Heroes series and I’m eagerly awaiting Book 2.
