Dane Garrison loves women and but to him men’s bodies are a thing of beauty. The first time he sees his new Search and Rescue partner, Robert “Bear” Barrington, he’s in trouble because Bear is everything he has ever wanted.

Bear has always hidden his homosexuality because he knows the danger of being gay in the all-male, macho world of firefighting and SAR, but when he meets sex-on-a-stick Dane everything he has tried so hard to keep under wraps could be revealed and his job may be in jeopardy. He falls immediately for Dane but he’s determined not to give in because he’s up for promotion and he doesn’t want to screw up his chances. Also, one of the other members of the team is homophobic and had been successful in driving away another firefighter recently and he doesn’t want the same fate.

One momentous weekend tests his will to the maximum as temptation is put right in his face when he, Dane and their SAR dogs are stranded by an avalanche after a rescue. All bets are off as the barriers to expressing their love come down when they are forced to sleep together to keep warm and their lust is given full rein. They have the most incredible sex which blows anything either of them has ever experienced out of the water and they know that there is no going back. However, Bear is terrified of being outed and refuses to speak to or have anything to do with Dane when they
return and treats their wonderful but brief time together as if it had never happened. But Dane is not giving up and he develops a plan of his own to get his man back. Will Dane succeed and will these two men have a happy ever after?

In Tie ‘Em Up, Hold ‘Em Down Carolina Valdez does an incredible job of world building as she put me right in the middle of the Search and Rescue environment and I could feel the snap of the cold and the bite of the wind when the teams were out doing their job. The characterizations for the most part were very good although I felt that Bear could have been stronger in some situations. The pace was fast and the action was sustained throughout the book with a few surprises, which made for a very good read. When Bear and Dane get together at last, all of that pent-up emotion explodes into a totally wonderful sexual experience that hit all the high notes.

I would recommend Tie ‘Em Up, Hold ‘Em Down to anyone who loves a terrific story with the added element of the great outdoors to go along with a hot romance.
