POLL – M/M Romance Readers – Separating the Sexes

I have posted a poll on the top left hand sidebar under “Visitors” which will hopefully help determine the ratio of male to female M/M romance readers who drop by the site. We all tend to think that it’s only women (especially straight women) who read these books, but the last time I did a survey I found out I was WRONG because I had many responses from gay men.

I would really appreciate it if you would complete this very painless new survey 🙂 which would be helpful to me and probably to many authors who have no idea how many of their readers are male, and may make incorrect assumptions.

Why am I doing this? I have another much larger survey coming up in about a week with a whole range of questions about M/M erotic romance and I will incorporate all of these surveys into an M/M romance database.

Thanks a lot guys. You know how much I appreciate your help.

  • Thanks for adding in the GQ/T option. I saw the poll before but couldn’t vote because there’s no way I could claim to be male or female. 🙂 I appreciate you giving me an opportunity to be counted.

Sometimes I do things in a hurry and I don’t realize my mistakes until they are pointed iout to me. This was a pretty bad omission on my part because this site believes in being inclusive, and I have to thank the blogger who pointed out the error of my ways. It won’t happen again. (Not this mistake anyway) 🙂 I changed the M/M authors’ poll as well.

  • I tried to do a similar analysis of the M/M romance group on Goodreads a few months ago. There are about 800 members and I think the ratio was somewhere around 75% women and 25% men.

I can’t wait to see the results. I am a media research analyst by trade (U.S. market), so this type of data fascinates to me (yeah… I am such a geek).

I have two polls running on the site about how the genders split in a couple of areas. I will also be posting a much larger poll on May 15 which is an update of one I did 18 months ago about readers’ views on different aspects of M/M romances. I hope you will drop by and leave your own comments. The larger the survey group the more accurate the results.

    • You know what? You’re absolutely right. I did this in a hurry and I’m so sorry. I apologise. Unfortunately I can’t change this poll now that it’s already started. However, I’ll have another one created tomorrow to accommodate those who don’t identify with being male or female. Thanks for reminding me. 🙁

UPDATE: Christian was able to revise the original poll to include those who don’t self identify as either male or female. Thanks again for reminding me to be inclusive.

You’re supposed to click in the little circle and then vote. It will then show you the results. The only way the system won’t allow you to vote if you’ve just voted. (I’ll have to check that with Christian). Wait a few minutes and try again. You can also refresh the page which I believe signals a new voter. Thanks T. I really appreciate your patience.

  • I can’t vote, it just shows me the results 🙁 Obviously, I’m doing something wrong. I don’t expect tech support, just add another girl onto your numbers 🙂
