Summary Review: What if Santa and his reindeer were actually horny elves that shape shifted?

Rom is Dasher, the leader of Santa’s shape-shifting team of reindeer. He is the quintessential elf — smart, handsome, charming — and everyone in Santa’s Village wants him. Lon is no exception. He’s hopelessly in love with Rom, but how can he hope to get Rom’s attention? Even if he is now one of the reindeer handlers, he’s still just a plain, ordinary elf, and painfully shy to boot.

Then there’s Wod. As Dancer, he’s both Rom’s second in command and Rom’s best friend. He, too, is devilishly handsome but in a darker and — truth be told — slightly frightening way. At least, he makes Lon’s heart race and his tongue tie in knots.

When Wod unexpectedly offers to help Lon gain Rom’s attention, Lon is completely confused. To make matters worse, Wod is clear that he’d love to play with Lon himself.

Lon is used to the sexual freedom in Santa’s Village but he craves something more meaningful. He wants a real relationship. So what does he do? Keep pining for Rom or play Wod’s special brand of reindeer games?

Around Christmas I look for light, easy to read, heart warming stories. Not a terribly hard desire to fill since most holiday stories fit that and I was especially excited to see a Jet Mykles offering. Reindeer Games is the perfect light hearted, humorous, tongue in cheek story with just the right amount of sex, fun, and pop culture references that make this very delightful to read. This is the perfect holiday story and actually a really great introduction to m/m for those that are new to the genre.

Lon is a reindeer handler in Santa’s Village. As an elf, he’s pretty average but thinks he’s in love with the head reindeer, Dasher. Dasher, also known as Rom in elf form, is a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of elf but Lon can’t help falling for his handsome face and kind manner. When Lon is offered help to finally get Rom from an unexpected source, Lon’s pretty confused. Wod, also known as Dancer, is Rom’s best friend and although Wod is interested in Lon, he’s also offered to help Lon get with Rom. How will this triangle end? You have to read to find out.

Except not really since I think it’s pretty obvious from the blurb what happens. Though you should definitely read this anyway as it’s fun, amusing, witty, and totally delightful. The tongue twister names are the only confusing part as the attraction between Wod and Lon is clear and strong from the beginning. Rom is nicely portrayed as neither a jerk nor a saint, instead he’s just another elf with no desire for commitment and many, many admirers. Lon is well crafted to come across as a genuine elf with a crush but easily transferrable when he stops and really thinks about his feelings.

The love triangle, such as it is, is a good element in the story. It adds the perfect touch of romance, sensuality, seduction and very colorful sex toys. What makes the story truly fun to read are the pop culture references and how they’re incorporated into the fantasy story. With elves shape shifting into reindeer and rather unconventional leaders in Santa and Mrs. Claus, the great wit and sly humor really shine. From Peppermint Lane to the Mistletoe and various departments such as Acquisitions (computer geeks), Christmas legends have come to life in a very clever and innovative way.

One of the best parts about reading this is not knowing what would come next, what new detail would be added or reference alluded to. What would happen to the neon blue dildo? The writing is wonderful and the story stays light and humorous. This isn’t the kind of story you worry about taking seriously but it’s definitely one that is a sheer delight to read and you’ll want to pick it up again and again. Adorable characters and a creative setting will have you devouring this novella in a single setting.

Reindeer Games Series

Another one for the TBR pile. This one sounds so good and I never get sick of Christmas stories – I read them in August. lol

Though the reindeer are the elf version of rock stars <<

This is so great. Damn I have to get to Jet’s Reindeer Games before too much debauchery happens.

    See – you’re back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great review, Kassa! I really liked this one too. It was a great light-hearted Christmas read without being too overly sweet. Great stuff!

  • I was starting to get paranoid that I was the only one on the planet who hasn’t read this, but Cole made me feel better about my slacker self. Thanks sweetie. 😀 Maybe I’ll read it tonight, even though my tree stands naked outside in the … not so cold.

    • That is if the tree isn’t swiped before then. You could write about a shape shifting tree that is abandoned only to be rescued by a lonely gay man that cherishes the “tree.”

    • ooo I’m so hoping for that now. *crosses fingers* Maybe it’ll be a series if we beg enough. Never know… could happen.

    • Definitely pull it out before the holidays are over. It’s super fast and quick to read and you’ll really enjoy it. It reads like the Heaven Sent series with that mixture of fun and hot sex just with elves instead of rock stars. (Though the reindeer are the elf version of rock stars)

    • I totally agree! This shot up to adorable, keeper status. I love reading Jet’s work as she manages to keep the story both hot and funny at the same time. Plus I think there needs to be more books set there!

    • I love Christmas stories or holiday stories. I make it last as long as I can! Hopefully everyone else won’t be overdosed on holiday fluff.
