There’s no such thing as a free ride. Aidan may be only twenty, but he’s already learned that the hard way. Hitch-hiking up from London to Glasgow to keep a promise to a man he’ll never see again, Aidan’s fully prepared to offer payment in kind for his lifts. He’s not expecting a good-looking older bloke to pick him up in a Mercedes — nor that he’ll find John such good company. After a few short hours together Aidan’s already starting to care what John thinks of him.
When slow traffic forces them to get a room for the night, Aidan’s not sure what to do. Putting out as a thank you to a stranger is one thing, but can he really go through with it with the first person he’s come to care for since he made that promise?
And what’s going to happen when they reach their destination?
Short, sweet and so very British…
Aidan is hitchhiking to Glasgow. When a Mercedes stops by the side of the road, he can’t believe that the gorgeous mature man in the fancy car really wants to pick him up. But John (Mercedes driver) not only offers to give him a ride but he also books him a hotel room to spend the night.
Now, I know what you think. The pervy older man expects the younger guy to pay him back in sex. No, not at all. John genuinely tries to help Aidan. In fact, the two of them hit it off immediately and Aidan shares a lot about his family and his past. Truth is that Aidan is in a rough spot, in a transitional period we would say. During this ride, he gains a friend.
Don’t think that there is no steam, though. Aidan admits he always liked older men and eventually there is some action between the two men.
The ending is not a HEA (which would be ridiculous considering the length of the story). I’d say it is a very very tentative HFN, more like a promise of great things to come between these two.
