Don’t judge a book by its cover….
At over six feet, with a body honed in the gym, auto worker Donavan Gregory is used to people assuming he’s a dominant top. Unfortunately, they’re wrong, and Donavan’s desire to explore his submissive side goes unfulfilled.
Smaller and older than Donavan, Doctor Seth Manning might not look like a typical dominant, but when the two men meet at Pride, Donavan realized Seth might be his perfect counterpart. The trouble is, Donavan doesn’t have as much experience with the BDSM world as he’d like. What could an educated, handsome, and confident man like Seth possibly see in someone like him? Seth must convince him that despite the differences on the surface, when it comes to kinky fun and discovery, they’ll fit together just fine.
“Override” is full of sugar with no bitterness at all. It has some pretty hot BDSM role playing and a sugary sweet romance between two extremely attractive men. Erotic romance always does it for me but this book got a little boring and unrealistic after almost 60% of the story.
Donovan has a secret longing to submit but his physique is a big hindrance towards his desire. At six two with muscles as hard as steel, no one considers him to be in need of a master but all he wants is to surrender. Then in pride he meets Seth. Seth is a Dom to his core and he knows what Donovan wants after one look. Seth is of a smaller stature than Donovan but he knows how to bring bigger men down to their knees. And he wants Donovan’s total submission.
Donovan and Seth are in complete lust with each other when they first meet. Donovan’s dream of submission to a man like Seth becomes a reality and outside of the role playing their mutual attraction grows with leaps and bounds each day. Donovan has insecurities given their difference in social status but that does not hinder their relationship in any way. They quickly fall in love and its all sunshine and rainbows for them after that.
I had difficulty in dealing with all the sweetness and smooth sailing nature of the romance. Donovan’s insecurities were well founded and I kind of waited for Seth to talk to him properly and rid him of those but that did not happen. The story kind of lost its steam in the second half. There was lots and lots of kinky sex but the emotional part was lacking. Their transition from a total sexual relationship to “I Love You” felt a lot bland. There was no tension or conflict whatsoever. I am not all for angsty reads but no angst at all was a little unrealistic.
All in all, readers who like their romance with lots of fluff and no angst at all with blazing chemistry and insane sexy times, would love this book. The ending is feel-good with a very sweet and sugary HEA. I am hoping Donovan’s best friend Cain to start batting for the same team soon coz I want to read his story bad. Looking forward to the next book.
