It’s Christmas, and all antique dealer Sebastian Snow wants is for his business to make money and to save his floundering relationship with closeted CSU detective, Neil Millett. When Snow’s Antique Emporium is broken into and a heart is found under the floorboards, Sebastian can’t let the mystery rest.
He soon finds himself caught up in murder investigations that echo the macabre stories of Edgar Allan Poe. To make matters worse, Sebastian’s sleuthing is causing his relationship with Neil to crumble, while at the same time he’s falling hard for the lead detective on the case, Calvin Winter. Sebastian and Calvin must work together to unravel the mystery behind the killings, despite the mounting danger and sexual tension, before Sebastian becomes the next victim.
In the end, Sebastian only wants to get out of this mess alive, and live happily ever after with Calvin.
I have to say this book was a great start to a brand new mystery series. It had an intriguing mystery with a slew of very well developed characters and it held my interest till the last page. I am a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe and the way his works are used in the plot as the tool of the mystery killer, was simply brilliant. Along with the mystery we get pampered by a sizzling romance which starts out with a bang with this first book in the series.
Sebastian Snow is an antique dealer and has a huge love for mysteries. So needless to say he is a fan of the king of macabre genre, Edgar Allan Poe. When he finds the “Tell Tale Heart” buried under the planks in his shop, Sebastian is caught up in a wild goose chase to catch a killer who is leaving behind snippets of Poe’s work as clues/taunts. The lead detective in the cases of the Poe murders is detective Calvin Winter. He is hot and Sebastian is totally smitten. But Calvin is not out and though they have the wildest sex indoors, Sebastian is not sure to jump into a new relationship with a closeted cop again. Things get heated up both in the bedroom and in the case and “Snow and Winter” must solve the mystery together to catch a killer before more people dies.
Sebastian Snow is the principal character in this book. We get the entire story in his POV. He is persistent and smart. His all consuming love for mysteries draws him into the case even after repeated warnings from Calvin to stay away. Sebastian was like a dog with a bone and he was not ready to give up without unraveling the mystery. I loved his character development. Sebastian sees the world differently than others, literally. He has a condition where he can only see the world in shades of grey but that does not stop him from going forward full throttle to get to the bottom of the mystery. I will say that he solved 90% of the case and Calvin was there only as the muscle.
As for the romance part, Sebastian gets out of a pretty bad relationship with a closeted cop and then jumps feet first again into a relationship with another closeted cop (a hotter and more emotionally available one than the previous but still the same). But this time Sebastian lucks out when Calvin is ready to come out to be with him. Their chemistry together was super HOT. Plus, they made a pretty amazing crime solving team.
This is a start of the journey of the mystery solving duo “Snow and Winter” and I am hoping we will get more amazing mysteries from them in the future. As for their relationship, they are just starting and I would love nothing more than to see their love grow into something more deep and profound.
Bottom line, this book will keep you glued to your kindle. Please reserve enough time before starting this book because you cannot let go once you start. A very well written and engaging mystery with a sizzling romance to boot, what’s not to like. I will be waiting for the next book with utmost impatience*grabby hands*
