This hot-headed rookie needs discipline—on and off the field.

This hot-headed rookie needs discipline—on and off the field.

Pitcher Nico Agresta is desperate to live up to his family’s baseball legacy. Since he was a teenager crushing on his big brother’s teammate, he’s known he can’t act on his desires. His father’s made it clear there should be no queers on the field, but if Nico can win Rookie of the Year like his dad and brother did, maybe he can prove he’s worthy after all.

At 34, veteran catcher Jake Fitzgerald just wants to finish out his contract and retire. His team doesn’t have a prayer of making the playoffs, but who needs the stress? Jake lost his passion for the game—and life—after driving away the man he loved, and he swore he’d never risk his heart again.

Then he’s traded to a team that wants a vet behind the plate to tame their new star pitcher. Jake is shocked to find the gangly kid he once knew has grown into a gorgeous young man. But tightly wound Nico’s having trouble controlling his temper in his quest for perfection, and Jake needs to teach him patience and restraint on the mound.

When their push and pull explodes into the bedroom, Nico and Jake will both learn how much they’ll risk for love.

This gay sports romance features men who have been repressing their feelings far too long, light BDSM, an age difference, sweaty locker rooms, and a happy ending. 86,000 words.

Nico Agresta has been trying to be straight since he first realized he liked men because his father made it clear there should be no queers on the baseball field. As a result of that, and some childhood issues, he’s a bundle of anxiety and nerves.

“Why?” Jake wanted to punch someone; wanted to turn back time and fix it. “Look at me. Why?”
Tears escaped, hanging on Nico’s lashes. “No queers in baseball. Not allowed.”
The fury burned white hot, but Jake tamped it down. “Fuck that. Fuck anyone who thinks that. Fuck your dad for thinking that. He’s wrong. They’re wrong.” He kissed Nico, stroking his tongue as if he could erase the words Nico had said—that he didn’t deserve it, that he wasn’t allowed.

Baseball is a small world, and Nico knew Jake Fitzgerald when he was thirteen. That was when Nico’s massive crush on Jake first began, and it seems nothing’s changed in the years since they’ve seen each other. While nothing ever happened then, when Jake gives Nico some much-needed correction it quickly escalates into the two coming together in some pretty sexy scenes.

“Tell me how you feel,” he whispered.
“Like there’s no going back.”
And as the words left Nico’s kiss-swollen lips, Jake recognized that truth deep in his bones.

I liked that, even though Nico was a little immature in spots, he grows up some during the course of the story. Have to say though, if he were real I would probably gently suggest some therapy.

While I mostly liked the romance side of story, the baseball side didn’t thrill me. I admit it – baseball bores me. But those who love the game will probably really enjoy that side of the story.

“…I stopped loving it. Stopped loving everything.”
“But you said things changed when you came here, right?”
Turning his head on the pillow, Jake swiped at the tears escaping his eyes. “When I started loving you, I loved the game again.”
Nico was pretty sure the floor had just evaporated and he was falling through space, his heart pounding in his ears. “You love me?” he whispered.
“Of course. I honestly never thought I’d love anyone again. I didn’t want to. But you’re undeniable.”

Reading the Signs is a low angst, dual POV, romance with some very light bondage, some spanking, and a sweet HFN/HEA.

I am an unapologetic book addict/lover. I’m happiest when reading and I spend most of my time with my Kindle, which is never far from my hand.
I love to be told a good story! I mostly read fiction: Romance, Erotica, Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal (shifters? Yes, please!), a little BDSM when I’m in the mood, and I love a good ménage story. I DEFINITELY PREFER A HFN/HEA!

My biggest no-no’s are cheating, miscommunication / misunderstanding plots, unnecessary angst, and cliffhangers.
