What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.
Cody Hayes is having one epic morning-after. The hangover following a Vegas bachelor party is nothing new to him, and neither is the naked man in his bed.
His apparent marriage is a different story.
Carefully plotting every detail of his life carried Julian Canales to a Senate seat as an openly gay man. A drunken night of Truth or Dare isn’t like him… and neither is marrying a man he just met. He’d get an annulment, but the media has gotten wind of his hasty nuptials. If Julian’s political career is going to survive, he has to stay married to a man who’s his opposite in every way.
Now he must convince Cody that all they need to do is survive a conservative political rival, a heartbroken ex, their painful pasts… and an attraction neither man can fight.
Wow, I have never read a story about two men who are so blind. There is honestly no other word for it when it comes to both Julian and Cody. Honestly, their blindness just completely blew me away and there was so many times I wished I could pop both men, at different times throughout this book, in the head and tell them to open their eyes cause they both have them. The problem is neither was using them.
When Julian and Cody met, I felt that Julian was this uptight individual that did not know how to loosen up and have a good time even if his life depended on it. But a funny thing happened and Cody broke through that hard exterior almost immediately and Julian became a different person around him.
Julian was actually playing a game he had never played before and in turn by playing truth or dare for the first time with Cody he was actually enjoying life for what I would wager was the first time. When these two men woke up married I knew they was both in for an awaking that neither would see coming.
Everyone kept referring to them as a couple as “perfect together” but the thing is I do not think that at all. I believe that they were so imperfect together that it made both of them open their eyes to what was really going on. Julian was trying so hard to prove they could have the perfect life together without love and Cody was doing everything that he could to provoke Julian into showing some type of real emotion that neither man realizes that they was actually showing each other their most hidden parts of themselves. When each man realized they had went back on their end of their bargain it through both of them in a tale spin and each for different reasons.
These two men each have so much emotional baggage that they cannot even see past their individual pasts to actually see their futures and that is no way to start a marriage much less stay in one.
This book even though fiction, was so close to a reality that I would only guess that a lot of people actually face. Especially the fact that one man is in love with the other, but the other is not and does not believe in love. Jacob Z. Flores wrote such a beautiful story with this book. It is truly a story that I would label as “you do not know what you have until it is gone”. I was not able to put this book down. I had to know how it was all going to come to head because it was inevitable and the question I kept asking myself is “what will they do when that happens?”
Great read and definitely a book I would recommend to others!!!
