Sequel to Risk Everything on It
Left at the altar by his long-time lover, Spencer, and in desperate need of quality health insurance, Dane Archer can’t say no when his best man and best friend, Gideon DeLuca, steps in. But Dane and Gideon have history, tangled and passionate and complicated.
After seventeen years of cat and mouse, Gideon has realized Dane isn’t the kind of man who ever wants to be caught, and he’s stopped playing Dane’s game.
For Dane, it’s never been a game, but sexual fidelity isn’t his strong suit. Love is too beautiful for limits, something he’s never been able to get Gideon the control freak to understand. Now Dane has nothing but limits, including the timeline on his paper-only marriage to Gideon.
Gideon’s the only person Dane trusts enough to lean on, and Gideon will do anything to get Dane through this crisis. Anything but fall for Dane again.
Living together forces Dane and Gideon to stop circling and face what’s been between them all these years. They just don’t know if they have the power or the time to make things right.
What they do know is that they’re not ready for it to be over.
Sometimes it takes a person almost dying to realize their true feelings for someone. To get over their issues and realize the thing the want the most is in front for them and has been for many years.
Dane knows he may die. Cancer is eating away at him and his only options are to either given in to cancer and lt it kill him, or to end things himself in his terms, or to fight it and hope for a good outcome. Dane thought he had it figured out when him and Spencer decided to finally get married but then Spencer brought all of that crashing down when he walked out on the wedding. So now Dane has to decide which way he wants it all to go.
Gideon has been in love with Dane for seventeen years and is not about to let him give up. The one thing that stands in Dane’s way of continuing treatment is insurance and of course Dane himself. Gideon has the solution to that by the two of them marrying but it is not so simple when feelings are involved and they are all one sided.
Dane in my opinion is a scared little boy in a mans body. He hides behind what he says are his beliefs about being with only one person. But I believe it is something else all together. I think Dane is scared. He is scared of failing at being faithful. He scared of his feelings bringing brought to light and then them being shattered in the end. He is scared of losing the one man that means more to him then his own life does. And he is scared to actually feel that love and then to lose it. He is just scared. I also think that fear is what has held him at arms length when it has always came to Gideon. Gideon is the one person that could make Dane throw all those fears out the door if he could just get over himself.
Gideon is a whole other story. He knows he loves Dane but with their past experiences he does not think Dane will ever be able to give him what he wants most in the world, Dane’s heart completely and 100 percent through and through. Gideon I believe has become so amazing at hiding everything that he has made that facade into blinders for himself also because he cannot see that Dane feels the same about him too but is too scared to let it out.
These two men have such a hard road in front of them and if they don’t both open their eyes they are going to lose each other for good. And I think that would be a worse tragedy then Dane having to fight cancer in order to stay alive.
This story has a huge emotional impact to it for me as the reader. Not only are these two men doing everything they can to fight such a horrible disease but they are also fighting with in themselves to grab a hold of the happiness with each other. It was an emotional roller coaster of a read but it is such an amazing story. KA Mitchell really did this story extreme justice. It was an an amazing story.
