2nd Edition

When Killian Barth, history professor, meets Blaine Genneau, quantum physicist, they ignite their own big bang. But Killian can’t pursue a physics professor—or a human. As the most powerful male witch in ten generations, Killian must bolster his dying race by reproducing—despite the fact that he’s gay.

Even a fling with Blaine is out of the question, because Killian has been told sex with humans drains his power. But if that’s true, why can young human Jimmy Janx dissolve spoons with the power of his mind? If Killian can sort through the lies he’s been fed, he’ll still face his biggest obstacle—convincing rational scientist Blaine to believe in magic.

With his ancient and powerful cat familiar, Aloysius, on his shoulder, Killian brings the lightning against deceit and greed to save Blaine from danger and prove love is the greatest power of them all.

First Edition published by Loose Id, 2012

This story is about a witch who doesn’t use spells, a black familiar cat who doubles as a neck roll, and a girl named Lavender who loves to wear lavender colored clothes.

Spoiler Alert

This story is about a witch, Killian, who teaches on witchcraft at the college. On the first day of school, he bumps into a new professor, Blaine, and it is love at first sight. He keeps bumping into him and the attraction just grows. They can’t stop thinking about each other.

Killian, on a visit to his mother, finds out that he is soon to be married to Lavender, the most powerful female witch of their community (coven). This is an arranged marriage that he does not want, being gay and all.

One of the rules of their Community is to never get involved with a human. Having sex with one can deplete your power. Killian, being so distraught about his upcoming wedding, gives in and spends the night with Blaine. He finds out that his power has not depleted, but, in fact, has grown. This brings a lot of confusion and questions.

After some research and experiments, Killian makes a startling discovery.

This book includes a side story. James ‘Jimmy’ Janx is a student in Killian and Blaine’s respective classes. Killian’s class in witchcraft really makes Jimmy think which prompts him to do some experiments at his apartment which leads him to a self-discovery.

Jimmy is also the boyfriend of Lavendar who is pledged to marry Killian in a few short weeks. Jimmy and Lavender are in love though.

Killian, with the help of Jimmy and Lavender, gather the community for a meeting and make arrangements to meet with the Council of Witches. At the meeting, they confront the council about the lies they’ve been told all their life. This leads to a showdown between the head of the council and Killian.

The ending is beautiful and depicts the perfect HEA.

I really loved this book. The cover is amazing. This story has a lot of things I love in a paranormal romance. It has magic, deception, a showdown, and as a bonus, a beautiful, black, magical cat.

The chemistry between Killian and Blaine is electrifying and explosive. When they get together thunder rumbles and lightning strikes. Literally. They can hear it, and see it, while they’re doing it.

This story flows like water. I had a hard time putting it down. I got through this book in only a couple of days. I’m so glad that it’s a series. I can’t wait to read the next one.

My only criticism is I wish the author would not have spent so much time telling Jimmy’s story and more time on Killian. I think we did not need to know so much about Jimmy. So, Jimmy’s experiences could have been more abbreviated.

So, overall I really loved this story. I Highly recommend it to everyone who loves a good paranormal romance and who loves a witchy type of story.
