What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.
Cody Hayes is having one epic morning-after. The hangover following a Vegas bachelor party is nothing new to him, and neither is the naked man in his bed.
His apparent marriage is a different story.
Carefully plotting every detail of his life carried Julian Canales to a Senate seat as an openly gay man. A drunken night of Truth or Dare isn’t like him… and neither is marrying a man he just met. He’d get an annulment, but the media has gotten wind of his hasty nuptials. If Julian’s political career is going to survive, he has to stay married to a man who’s his opposite in every way.
Now he must convince Cody that all they need to do is survive a conservative political rival, a heartbroken ex, their painful pasts… and an attraction neither man can fight.
Can a liquor induced wedding produce a happily ever after? This story proves that, yes, it can.
Cody and his friends from college gather together in a local bar in Las Vegas to celebrate the upcoming marriage of one of them. Cody’s friends challenge him to approach a guy and spend the night with him. The guy Cody chooses is Julian, a senator from San Diego.
The morning after finds Cody and Julian in the same bed and married. After a freak out, Julian decides he wants to stay married to Cody and persuades Cody to give them a shot. Julian really feels that they are a perfect couple, based on what he’s learned about Cody. They have the same beliefs and views on Love and Marriage.
Cody the boy from Austin, Texas, moves into Julian’s mansion in San Diego. This Texas boy has now moved up into the high society of the politically rich.
After 2 months of marriage bliss an incident happens while Julian is in DC for a meeting that causes a riff between them. Julian comes home to a surprise, Cody leaves to go back to Austin and…. I’ll leave it right there. Don’t want to give away the ending.
I’ve read this plot before, but this author gives the main characters a fresh twist. A senator and a Casanova college graduate turned author. Strange pairing turned into the sweetest couple ever.
I love the way that Julian kept trying to prove to Cody that their union was right and they were made for each other. How he was so kind and considerate and loving in his actions towards Cody was super sweet. I could have made a cake frosting out of it. I also loved Cody’s reaction, that he fought himself the entire way, but in the end, he ended up loving Julian.
Like the marriage, the pairing of Julian and Cody was perfect. They’re opposites, but so compatible. Julian with his perfect speech, perfect designer suits, perfect model home, compared to Cody’s laid-back Texas ways and simple lifestyle.
The felt the story was a bit rushed. The beginning took long in laying down the foundation so the meat of the story seemed rushed. I wish I could have seen more of their 2 months of life together living in San Diego in Julian’s house. I was looking forward to seeing them on the Campaign Trail. I wanted to see how Cody was in Julian’s world. He gave that wonderful speech after they got married and I wanted to see him do it again on the Campaign Trail. So I was disappointed.
The ending was great. Julian’s epiphany and chasing after Cody and getting their happily ever after.
I do recommend this book because the author’s fresh twist on the main characters for this type of plot was refreshing.
