Talon Valdez knew when he transformed into an enhanced human, his life and his dreams were finished. Reviled, mistrusted, and often locked away, the enhanced were viewed as monsters, despised by the public, and never trusted to serve in the military or any law enforcement agency.
Years later he gets a chance to set up a task force of enhanced to serve in the FBI, but with one proviso: each enhanced must partner with a regular human.
Finn Mayer dreamed of joining the FBI from the time he was fourteen and made every possible sacrifice to make it happen, including living with his selfish mother and bullying, homophobic brother and never having a boyfriend. But his undiagnosed dyslexia stopped his aspirations dead in their tracks. His last chance is to partner with Talon, an enhanced with deadly abilities who doesn’t trust regular humans with their secrets and wants Finn to fail.
Four weeks to prove himself to the team. Four weeks for the team to prove itself to the public. And when another group threatens their success—and their lives are at stake—four weeks for them to survive.
I really really really hope this is going to be the first book in a series of books. That is saying a lot about how much I liked “Five Minutes Longer.” This was an incredible book. So with that said, I will say that this has such amazing potential to be an incredibly sought after series.
Finn is one of those type of characters that immediately grab ahold of your heart and does not let go. He has had tragedy in his life when his dad committed suicide and Finn was the one to find him. He has insured a mother that cares only for herself and a older brother that does everything in his power to make him weak and feeling like he he is not worthy of better. But regardless of all the things that he has insured, he has kept at his dream of becoming an FBI agent. Just when he thinks that his dream is not going to happen he gets an unexpected phone call that is about to change his life forever.
Finn is recruited for a special division of the FBI that still has to probe its worth before it is shut down. The thing is Finn will be working with and partnered up to an enhanced human which everyone is afraid of. Finn is skeptical about his worth to his team because they are way more then he is with the abilities each person has but he is not giving up his drwam and will do whatever he has to in order to prove his worth to the team.
Talon is the team leader and is Finn’s enhanced partner. To say he is not happy about having a human as a partner is like saying the sky is purple and not blue. Talon believes that Finn will be the cause of them not getting the go ahead after their four weeks to prove themselves as useful is up. To say that Talon is surprised with Finn and how well he has fit in with everyone is putting it mildly.
Talon has other issues he has to work out because the more Finn is partnered with him the closer the two get and the more both of them are starting to have feelings for each other. Which is very dangerous.
Things quickly go up in flames in more ways then one for not only Finn and Talon but for the team in general. And no matter how hard Finn tries to keep his nose clean and out of trouble, it seems that trouble and danger seeks Finn out rather quickly. Can the team rescue Finn before it is too late or will he be caught up in a dangerous situation one to many times to come out of it on the other side still standing.
This book was so action packed. Every time you turned a page something was happening but it was not too much action that it overwhelmed the reader. I will honestly say that this book left me wanting more of not only Finn and Talon but the team in general. I really hope as I said that this is just the first book in a series of other books. I would be first in line to get the next book when it was available if so. There is great potential to expand on this book and I really hope that is what Victoria Sue is planning to do. This was an incredible read that I will definitely be recommending to others.
