For vampire Charles Redfort, Christmas is a bitter reminder of the day he was killed by a werewolf. After fleeing the vampire army he was created to serve in, he has lived in exile in England. Once a year he allows himself to tell the truth about his life over dinner. Then he eats the man he’s hired for the night.
Blake Wells is an engineering student by day and escort by night. He works Christmas because he doesn’t want to see his father, and his mother doesn’t want to see him. When he meets Charles, he thinks he’s gotten a bonus present that he can’t wait to unwrap. But as the truth is revealed, Blake will have to think fast to live until morning and convince Charles to give up his lonely life.
This was a good, quick read about wanting one thing only to realize that it is something else totally that you actually want.
I love a good vampire read and even though this was a quick read it was extremely good. Charles turned out to not be the person that I thought he would be. Though he is a vampire he tries to only have what he truly wants only once a year. That want is to be able to be completely open and honest with his dinner companion on Christmas and tell them what he really is and what he is going to do to them. Charles has everything always planned out and this is the one time a year that he is able to completely be who he is in front of someone else. So needless to say this is the one day a year that he looks forward too.
Charles just does not realize that his plans are about to be turned upside down by the enigma better know as Blake. Blake takes all of Charles’s well made plans and flips them on him in a blink of an eye and makes Charles realize that maybe he can have more to look forward to each year besides just this one day.
This was a quick read but I really loved it. It takes one man to make another realize that there is more out there to look forward to then just what they thought there was. Blake is such an amazing individual that he not only changed the course of his life but he also gave someone who had no hope something to look forward too and to be happy about for the first time in a very long time. It is not love that is between them at this point but I believe that it would easily turn into that for these two men because in my opinion they are very much meant for each other. I truly enjoyed this short story. It was a great read and left somewhat of a soft spot in my heart for these two men.
