Lane Freeman supposed there were worse places to be dumped than a place named Christmas Valley. After being ejected from the foster care system, he spent the past five years hitchhiking and moving around. But six months of a steady job at Tal’s Bar and Grill, an apartment, and even a three-legged cat have him almost ready to risk putting down a few roots when Tal’s brother comes home for the holidays.

Dallas firefighter Trey Jenkins reluctantly accepts that Lane isn’t like the other drifters who’ve come through his brother’s place. A fragile attraction begins to bloom between them in spite of the many reasons they each have to fight it. Trey wants to give Lane a family, but experience has taught Lane to depend on no one but himself. Will winter love burn hot in the town called Christmas Valley or will Lane return to his wandering ways?

Location: Christmas Valley

This is one beautiful story

A boy from a tragic past who also lost everything including his family and his self-esteem meets someone who starts out as a bully but ends up being his rescuer then lover.

The relationship of Trey and Lane is erratic. When they take one step forward they end up taking two steps back. Trey learns to deal with Lane’s self esteem issues by practicing patience and understanding and seeking forgiveness. Lane at the same time has to open himself up if he wants Trey’s friendship and possibly something more.

The supporting cast of Trey’s brother and parents balance out this story wonderfully. They give Lane the family he’s always wanted and the love and support he’s always needed.

Chloe rounds out this supporting cast giving the cuteness factor. She’s the lovable ball of fluff who is Lanes cat. I really love how’s the author didn’t just mention her here and there, but really included her as a full-time character of the story. I really appreciated that.

The ending includes another tragedy, but concludes with a sweet ending.

I highly recommend this book. It’s a bit emotional, but in a good way, and I loved how a person down on his luck who’s lost everything comes out on top and gains everything. Go and get this book. You won’t be sorry; and you’re welcome in advance.
