In a post-zombie apocalypse world, an almost-madman named Mercury and his newfound companion, Gaga, seek refuge in a RV-turned-mobile-fortress.
This is a new-to-me author, and I really enjoyed this one! A youngish man, later named Gaga (read the story – you’ll get it then), gets saved from a zombie in a Wendy’s bathroom by a tad older Mercury. And the rest of this short novella is them traveling in Mercury’s RV, named El Presidio, north towards Canada and away from the zombies.
The banter between Gaga and Mercury is everything in this one. Mercury is probably not altogether sane, but he’s all kinds of friendly, sweet, and funny! And sanity isn’t really necessary when most of humanity has been wiped out by zombies. Sometimes it’s simple human interaction that one needs amongst all the horror.
Even though Gaga likely wouldn’t have looked twice at Mercury (his previous type was twinks like himself) prior to the zombie invasion, these two form a really sweet friendship, which progresses further throughout the course of the short story, with some steamy pages thrown in 😉
I was surprised by how much the author packed into less than 80 pages. I would recommend this one!
