A life story about friendship, love, heartache, loss, acceptance and redemption.
It all started when Adam Cooper moved to the house next door. The brown haired boy with hazel eyes speckled with green was the coolest boy in the world and Ben Holt did everything he could do to win his friendship. As they are pulled apart and thrown back together, fighting to keep their heads above water, you can follow Ben and Adam in their journey through life, as they cross oceans to be together.

This book is amazing!!! There was so much love, angst, longing and heartbreak that I could not help but bawl my eyes out. The MCs truly had oceans separating them which they finally conquer at the end. That extended HEA made me jump up and down with joy. I am so happy that I discovered this author. Her writing style is flawless. I finished this book in one setting coz leaving it to read later on was not an option.

Ben Holt and Adam Cooper had been best friends since Adam’s family moved next door to Ben’s when they were ten. Ben’s friendship turns into a crush and then to love when he realizes that he likes boys better than girls. But before anything can happen they are tore apart when Adam’s family moves. Ben is too distraught and hurt to consider his friend’s feelings and in turn ends up hurting Adam very badly.

Two years passes by with no contact from Adam and Ben regretting his hateful words that has cost him his best friend. Then Adam comes back in his life again. Ben tries his best to apologize for his behavior but Adam is not ready to forget and forgive. The friends finally patch up and this time their friendship takes a romantic turn when Adam reveals that he has feelings for Ben too.

The couple is helplessly in love and Ben has never been so happy, until Adam gets selected to Princeton which is on the opposite side of the country where Ben gets into university. There are heartfelt promises from Adam for truly trying to work hard to maintain a long-distance relationship. But all goes to shit when Ben loses himself to depression and hypoglycemia to even function properly. He cuts off any ties with the love of his life coz he does not want to hold Adam back. Ben breaks Adam’s heart while also shattering his own irreparably in the process.

A decade passes again before Adam and Ben come together. Old feelings surfaces and Ben finds his carefully constructed life tilting on its axis once again. The oceans between Adam and Ben are too wide to leap across and they will need their ever present, powerful bond to bring them together once and for all.

This story will make you feel like nobody’s business. There was so much hopelessness and heartbreak in this story while also enticing you with a future full of hope and love. Ben and Adam’s love could not start properly before it ends and the author captures Ben’s heartbreak and despair perfectly. His mental illness also plays a huge role in the separation which is handled here brilliantly. Ben was struggling with his own mind and it’s a battle he eventually wins to certain degrees but Adam remains a trigger who can unravel him completely on a very short notice.

Adam’s coming back and sticking through Ben’s avoidance was so very emotional and awesome. I loved Adam. He never got a chance to fully understand Ben’s problems before and thus never got a chance to actually try to fight for him. But when years later he meets Ben again he is determined to get his first love back. He makes major changes in his life even before knowing Ben’s real problems. Adam was the perfect medicine for Ben and their HEA was a glorious thing to behold.

The entire book is from Ben’s POV which was so very necessary in truly understanding Ben and the reasons behind his actions. From absolute friendship to teenage angst to battling a mental disease to heartbreak and then again to Ben’s reunion with Adam; everything is written with so much heart. The writing is phenomenal. I just could not believe my luck when at the end the author lets us know that there is another book in the works from Adam’s POV. Adam was an equally strong presence here and I can’t wait to read his side of the story.

Ms. Kyra Cross has earned a place in my favorite author shelf with this exceptionally well-written and amazing book. With its beautifully crafted characters, heart-wrenching and powerful romance and a plot that will tug at your heartstrings, this story will remain with me for a long time to come. I can’t recommend this book enough!
