Johnny Slade wasn’t looking for a vacation, nor was he looking for love. A nomad, a journalist, an activist, a man who wants to change things for others even if he couldn’t for himself, Johnny was just looking for his next story.
Shane Moore lost a chance at college, but he’s never been weighed down by his lot in life. Working for his grandmother, helping his injured single father on the ranch, these are things that fulfill him. But now he wonders what his future might hold. Especially since everyone else is moving on around him.
But things happen in Abernathy, TX. Johnny gets stranded, Shane’s desire to help this guy who blew his mind is strong. After a few weeks in their own bubble of sex and surprising mutual interest, one will find home, the other will find adventure, and both will find that the future is most fun when you stop trying to hold on to your own way.
Warning: a big biker queen who’s as fearless as not, a country boy who’s not as shy as he seems, and a few old Texas friends to push them in the right direction.
Slade is the start of Kade Boehme’s latest series. It’s the story of 23-year-old Shane who passed on college to help his family, and Slade, a 32-year-old reporter who got stuck in Abernathy, TX while his bike gets fixed.
-Shane and Johnny. Both men were loyal and loving. There was almost a calming quality to them especially Shane. I could see why his family relied on him so much.
-Relationship. I love relationships that start casual and grow into more. Shane and Slade’s relationship began as a tentative friendship that would blossom into more.
-Narration. The story was told from both men’s POV.
-Supporting cast. They added to the story and were fleshed out.
My only niggle was that I would’ve liked for the story to be longer. I wanted more Shane and Slade! Since I finished reading it, I have learned there’s a second book in the works. Yay! Should be out this summer. Now don’t worry about reading this one- it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. It concludes with a sweet HFN that’ll get you eager for the next installment.
Do I recommend it? I do. I always enjoy Kade’s slice of life stories; they’re a nice break from reality and make me smile.
4.25- I- NEED- BOOK- TWO- Stars!
