It’s never easy to find redemption.

Carrying scars and regrets, River Darcourt avoids too much intimate contact. Among his friends, he is known as a quiet loner. Forget about love. It’s not something he will consider… until sweet, young, and tempting Morgan Hayes becomes his housemate. River closed his heart long ago, but the attraction is impossible to deny.

Morgan Hayes needs a change. He is moving out of his critical father’s home and in with his friends, including his secret/not-so-secret crush, River. Having feelings for River is a terrible idea. But what is a guy to do when the annoyingly sexy mechanic is just across the hall?

While Morgan has overcome ugliness and is ready for love, he’s just not sure River ever will be. They have both experienced pain in their lives. So Morgan dares River to take a chance, and love will either break their fractured hearts in more pieces or, just possibly, make them whole again.

‘Secrets of You’ is the forth book in the ‘Sunshine and Happiness series’. This story follows the romance of Morgan and River and can be read as a standalone but I would advice all to start reading from the first book. All the characters from the previous books are here; their lives are intertwined in some way or the other so it’s better to know their stories beforehand.

River has never spilled anyone his secret, the terrible burden that he carries around. He has suffered blow after blow and is convinced that he is cursed and that everyone he loves gets hurt. River has always run from his emotions thus closing him off further from his friends and well-wishers.

Morgan has suffered a terrible ordeal and he still carries the scars from that incident. He masks his fears and weaknesses behind his cheery personality. He tries to work through his problem rather than running away from them. He is pulled towards River since they first met. There is something in River that calls to Morgan’s very soul but he never got close enough to unravel his secrets.

But when they get a fortnight of alone time together, the pull is too strong for both to keep away. Their insecurities and secrets rear their ugly heads which leads to angsty moments followed by understanding and then finally love. Through trials and heartbreak they get their HEA which was amazingly beautiful.

Both the MCs are broken to certain degrees and they needed each other to heal and move on. River finally faces his fears and his past for Morgan’s sake and the results were very rewarding. His past was heartbreakingly tragic and I deeply felt his remorse and grief. River’s entire journey throughout the story as he struggles to face his demons, try to heal and then fall in love was very nicely written. It was emotional and angsty but not too overwhelming.

Morgan had his issues what with his ‘semi-homophobic’ dad always criticizing him for his looks, behavior and sexuality. River accepts him the way he is and lets Morgan shine and be himself. I loved River for loving Morgan so dearly. Morgan is such a sweet and pure soul and River does an amazing job in getting his shit together and protecting and loving Morgan like he deserved.

This story is angsty, has a lot of feels, sweet, romantic, healing and passionate. The connection between River and Morgan was blazing hot. There were a lot of heavy issues that had to be worked through here and it was done in a very real and believable way.

This story is a must read for all romance lovers especially those who love healing/comfort stories. I really enjoyed it and I would be waiting for the next book in the series (hopefully it will be about Logan, a new character introduced here).
