It’s never easy to find redemption.
Carrying scars and regrets, River Darcourt avoids too much intimate contact. Among his friends, he is known as a quiet loner. Forget about love. It’s not something he will consider… until sweet, young, and tempting Morgan Hayes becomes his housemate. River closed his heart long ago, but the attraction is impossible to deny.
Morgan Hayes needs a change. He is moving out of his critical father’s home and in with his friends, including his secret/not-so-secret crush, River. Having feelings for River is a terrible idea. But what is a guy to do when the annoyingly sexy mechanic is just across the hall?
While Morgan has overcome ugliness and is ready for love, he’s just not sure River ever will be. They have both experienced pain in their lives. So Morgan dares River to take a chance, and love will either break their fractured hearts in more pieces or, just possibly, make them whole again.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that River’s story is the whose I’ve been anticipating most since finishing Here for You (Sunshine and Happiness #1). He’d lost the man we all assumed he’d been in a secret loving relationship with and he seemed angry and in excruciating pain. His friends tried to be there for him, but River was mentally often miles away lost in his sorrow.
Then he met, Morgan. Morgan who despite having been through a horrific attack and having his personal family baggage tries to see the bright side of life. He sees River, and although he was warned to steer clear of him, Morgan takes a chance and makes a leap.
River and Morgan’s book became favorite of the series. I went in thinking this story would be dark and angsty but instead it was one of light and hope.
-River and Morgan. I am a sucker for opposites attract, and everything about these men was opposites, yet they complimented each other perfectly. Skylar M Cates developed these characters exceptionally.
-Dual POV narration.
-Chemistry. Palpable sexual tension! You felt it when they looked, talked, walked, thought about each other.
-The sex scenes- they were on fire!
-The tone of the story. As I mentioned earlier, I was anticipating a darker story and instead got something much different, and it worked better in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong- there’s still angst just not how I was expecting. You’ll see. 🙂
-The end. A happy end and we’re introduced to a couple of characters I’m PRAYING we’ll be our main characters in book 5….
Can this be read as a standalone? I don’t think so- for maximum enjoyment you want to read these in order.
Do I recommend this book and this series? A resounding yes.
Secrets of You had hooked me before it was even written and it more than lived up to my expectations. It’s a beautifully written story of trust, redemption, and new beginnings. 5 Stars.
