It’s never easy to find redemption.
Carrying scars and regrets, River Darcourt avoids too much intimate contact. Among his friends, he is known as a quiet loner. Forget about love. It’s not something he will consider… until sweet, young, and tempting Morgan Hayes becomes his housemate. River closed his heart long ago, but the attraction is impossible to deny.
Morgan Hayes needs a change. He is moving out of his critical father’s home and in with his friends, including his secret/not-so-secret crush, River. Having feelings for River is a terrible idea. But what is a guy to do when the annoyingly sexy mechanic is just across the hall?
While Morgan has overcome ugliness and is ready for love, he’s just not sure River ever will be. They have both experienced pain in their lives. So Morgan dares River to take a chance, and love will either break their fractured hearts in more pieces or, just possibly, make them whole again.
Sometimes it is not just the need to have forgiveness and acceptance of one past but it is that one needs to forgive themselves and accept that the past happened but learn from the mistakes that was made in order to be able to find a lasting happiness.
River is a closed off person. Even with so many people in his life that he considers to be his family, he will not let them in on his pain or his past. He keeps everything bottled up inside and does not let his grief out. He feels this is his punishment for his past mistakes. The only person that almost broke through that barrier was killed in a bike accident and since Brendon passed away River has not let anyone get close because he thinks he is cursed.
Morgan has wanted River since the moment he met him but everyone has warned him off and told him that River will never let him in. Morgan still does not give up hope nor does he believe that Diver is a hopeless cause.
When River finally accepts that Morgan is not going to go anywhere and that he will continue to want him, River finally gives in but he still is closed off.
After some up and downs and secrets finally come out, things really start to come togther for Morgan and Tiver. The question is though will Morgan ever be as important to River as Brendon once was or will he always come in second?
This was a great read about learning to accept the past and learning to forgive. Not to forgive someone else but to forgive ones self. Until River was able to do that and to learn to let others get close to him he was never going to find happiness. I love when a book has a moral storyline behind it and this one did. I am looking forward to more books in this series in the future.
