The night Nick Henderson storms into Martelli’s Pizzeria, he’s just looking for something to eat. Along with dinner, he finds Lou Martelli—pizza cook extraordinaire and Jersey Shore native. Nick is renting a Shore house for the winter while taking classes at the local community college as he devises a way to escape the accounting major his father chose for him.
When Lou offers to show Nick around, heat flares between them as they realize they have more in common than domineering families. But it’s not all fun and games on the boardwalk. Hurricane Sandy blows ashore, changing the place Nick was starting to think of as home. His peace is shattered, and it will take everything he has to keep his relationship with Lou from being torn apart by the storm brewing around them.
States of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the United States.
Sometimes it takes meeting the right person to give you the courage to stand up for yourself and what you want out of life.
Nick decided to take a year off from RU where he was going to school at and escape to Seaside and stay while attending a community college there. His father was not happy about it but accepted it at least for the time being. Nick has found himself struggling because he does not want to follow in his fathers footsteps and become an accountant but at the same time he does not want to rock the boat and disappoint him either. So this one away for Nick is a finding himself experience.
Nice meets Lou at a pizzeria he visits one night and is immediately attracted to him. After a nice meal with the two talking and getting to know one another a little better Nick decides to come back again in hopes that they can continue to get to know one another.
After coming back in a few times Lou asks Nick out on a breakfast date. To say that Nick is excited is to say the least but Nick is still not certain if it is a platonic breakfast date or an actual date so he decides to play it by ear until Lou leaves no doubt in his mind that it is a date when he kisses Nick.
From that moment on the two do their best to continue to get to know one another and agree to take things slowly by dating and getting to know one another. This seems to be really working out for them until a hurricane has its path set out for the town they are in and Nick has to evacuate where he lives and Lou offers up his place to Nick.
At first things are fine but then the bottom drops out from under them and both men are left floundering and trying to figure out where to go next?
Will Lou and Nick be able to figure out where things started to go wrong between them before it is too late to fix it? Will Lou be able to stand up to his family over demanding all of his time at the pizzeria? Will Nick finally find the courage to be who he wants to be or will he continue down the path that his dad has chosen for him?
This was a good quick read about two men who are so alike in the way that they are both trying to please their fathers and not themselves. Boy Nick and Lou had to figure out ho to become who they want to be instead of who their families want. They also had to figure out a way to communicate with one another or risk their relationship going up in flames before it really begins.
As I said this was a quick read but it was a very good read. I am glad that I read it!!!
