Jamie’s life is one big financial mess, and it really isn’t his fault. However, the last thing he expected to find in the library was a Good Samaritan. He might have been suspicious of Guy’s motives at first, but it soon becomes apparent that his savior is a good man who has been lucky in life and is looking to pay it forward. Guy being gay is not a problem. Jamie’s not interested… or so he thinks.
Guy is happy to help Jamie, and the two men get along fine. But when Jamie’s curiosity leads him from one thing to another, Guy finds himself looking at the young man with new eyes. What started out as a hand up is now something completely different….
This book is just adorable. I love K.C Wells’ writing. She always weaves beautiful, meaningful, comfy romances which leaves me sighing and floating. ‘Step by Step’ is another example of her unique brand of soothing/gooey romance which really did make my day.
Jamie is struggling to put himself through college. He has huge money troubles and no one to help him out of it. His parents are going through a messy divorce and Jamie’s college tuition is going towards filling the pockets of the divorce lawyers. So yeah, he is in big trouble of losing education as well as the roof over his head if does not come up with some funds soon. When all hopes seems to have dried up, an unknown man named ‘Guy’ walks in his life with a solution to all his troubles.
Guy is 38 with a successful business and a golden heart. When he was young and going through something similar like Jamie, someone helped him out too and Guy wants to pay it forward by helping out Jamie.
It all seems too good to be true but as Jamie moves in with Guy, he sees what a genuine guy, Guy is. He truly wants to help Jamie succeed without anything in return. He does not have any ulterior motives for helping Jamie out.
They get along famously together until the life-altering kiss on Jamie’s 21st birthday that changes the dynamic of the roommates completely. Jamie realizes that he is not so straight after all and that he has hots for Guy big time. Thus starts a romance which was filled with heaps of scorching and outrageously passionate deliciousness that will just melt your heart and make you wish for this book to never get over.
This book is a slow-burn romance with Jamie and Guy starting as virtual strangers and then to friends and then finally becoming a sugary-sweet couple with exploding love. Their relationship is without any angst at all as they talk out their desires and wants beautifully. Guy respects Jamie’s wishes to wait until he builds his career and Jamie never harbors any doubts about Guy’s affections towards him.
I loved the soothing feel of the romance. There is no angst as such except for Guy’s asshole son, but that was minor. Mainly the couple had worries about their age gap but it all gets resolved fabulously at the end. I loved both Jamie and Guy’s friends very much. They were supportive and so encouraging of their relationship.
The age difference will never bother you here, the romance is that satisfying. Everything fit perfectly together. Loved it!!!
The epilogue was PERFECT!!! I don’t want to shelve this book under ‘age-difference’ coz it was so much more than that.
