Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh and Caleb called it home.
In Paradise, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world.
But Joshua doesn’t need temptation to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together the way he craves.
It can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret.
Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires.
Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him. Can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels?
Goodbye Paradise is the sweet, emotional, heart warming story of Josh and Caleb who spent most of their lives in a cult called Paradise. This story follows their journey after Josh is thrown out of Paradise and how they find their footing in the almost alien outside world and how they navigate their new relationship.
I loved this book. It was everything sweet and perfect. Josh and Caleb are two very well written characters and their journey will make you fall in love with them. Josh having lived a sheltered, religious life for so many years find it hard to come to terms with a lot of things especially his love for Caleb and his sexuality. But he slowly learns to accept things. Caleb finds it a lot more easier to navigate their new reality and he gives the unconditional support Josh needs. Their relationship is filled with stolen moments and nights of passion amidst them navigating and learning about the strange new world. I loved that they both had the courage to be together even though years of conditioning told them it’s wrong. I also loved how the author portrayed their growth as individuals and as a couple. Another important aspect of this book is the secondary characters. Daniel and Maggie became the perfect secondary characters to help Josh and Caleb in their journey. What I loved the most about this book is the simplicity with which the author has penned their story. There is not even a single moment which doesn’t capture you with the subtlety of emotions and feelings. Josh and Caleb and their love for each other is present through out the book and that made it a beautiful read. Their love story will capture your heart and never let go.
Goodbye Paradise is a book which is akin to warm gooey chocolate. It is filled with sweet and romantic moments and also with heartfelt emotions. Josh and Caleb and their relationship will make you want more. Highly Recommended.
