The world is at war, a war determined to involve Eli, whether he likes it or not. Hitler, his dark army of feral vampires, and even the Devil himself, all conspire against Eli, leaving him no choice but to fight back, risking Malachi’s soul in the process.
Eli is determined to find Ethan’s father, no matter the cost to himself or Malachi, and in a place filled with death and unending cruelty, Eli realizes that some truths should remain buried, and some truths are just too terrible to bear. When the old enemy, demons from Eli’s dark past, find him once more, they reveal a secret so impossible, so terrible, that it pushes Eli to the very edge of his endurance. They took his boyfriend from him once, and the secrets that they reveal about the man he once loved threaten to strip Eli of everything that he holds dear, pushing him to the edge of his sanity.
Eli thought that he had nothing left to lose, but at Welwelsburg Concentration Camp, he realizes that he was very wrong.
This series gets more interesting and more intense and more intriguing with each book. Book one was basically about letting the reader in on what was to come. It was a book that built the suspense for the reader as to what they could anticipate. Book two is more about unanswered questions, lies, and betrayal.
This book bases itself around Mal and Eli for the most part. Both men go undercover to infiltrate the compound where Ethan’s father is being held and a prison camp. At this prison camp both Eli and Mal come to learn secret that they never thought they would have answers to.
Eli learned that even though he never wanted to care again and never wanted to love again that he still did. All the destruction around him of human life tore Eli to shreds. It also Gabe Eli the will power to want to fight and defend these people. Something he has lost a long time ago. It gave him his humanity back. Eli met some people in this prison camp that he ill never be able to forget and promises that he intends to keep.
Mal too learned things about himself while he was undercover in the prison camp. He learned that he could easily turn to the dark side if he allowed it. That there is power behind it but there is also destruction and pain. He learned how he ended up the way that he is and he learned what betrayal feels like.
This book truly was a book about eye openers and maybe even hope for the future. I am still rooting for Eli and Ethan to end up together but that is still to be seen. I cannot wait to read book three. I believe it will be a huge eye opener with even more revelations. I believe it will also be just as gripping as the past two books have been.
