THIRDS Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs and Chief Medical Examiner Hudson Colbourn are as much in love now as they were nearly seven years ago when a tragic event on the job destroyed their relationship. The two drift together only to be pulled apart time and time again. When Hudson draws the interest of dangerous enemies, both within and outside the organization, Seb wants nothing more than to protect the man who still means everything to him.
As life and death events, an uncertain future, and startling truths draw Hudson and Seb to each other yet again, they must make a choice: trust their love and take strength from what they share, or lose what matters most for good this time.
As always Charlie Cochet finds a way to blow me away with this series. There could be a thousand books in this series and I would read every one of them. I have been following this series since I read my first shifter series. The first shifter book I read was by Charlie Cochet and it was the first book in “The Thirds series” and I have been hooked since. I wait impatiently each time a new book is about to release. I read it right away. And then I find myself waiting impatiently for the next book in the series to come out again. That is what this series does to me and has since the beginning.
Darkest Hour Before Dawn involves two characters that has made impacts in the past books and have snippets of their past but until now we did not fully have their story. Now that we do I believe that there is definitely more to come for them in future books and I believe that they will play a major role in upcoming books.
Seb and Hudson have always left me feeling heartbroken for them in the past because even though they were mates, they could not be together. Because of a tragedy in their past when they were together Hudson pulled away and refused to give them a second chance. Hudson believes that no matter how much they love each other, they are jinxed to have extremely bad things happen to them and people around them while they are together. Basically I think that Hudson is punishing himself and in turn punishing Seb for things that are out of their control.
Hudson strikes me as this individual that has to be in control of what is happening around him or he feels out of control himself and he does not like feeling that way. Seb is a strong individual that tries to carry the weight of those he loves on his shoulders from his family to his friends to especially Hudson.
No matter how Seb has tried to move on from Hudson, he cannot. A love as strong as the these two men has is simply heartbreaking when one or both feels they cannot be together. This book goes more in depth about the love they have shared. The reasoning behind why Hudson feels they cannot be together and parts of their pasts before each other that we never knew about each man.
There are of course all the same characters of the previous books in this read and maybe a few newer faces. We learn more about what “The Thirds Agents” and “Tin” has coming their way and the dangers that will come with it. We also learn of connections of the past and how they may impact everyone involved. Most of all we learn if Hudson and Seb can and will overcome past tragedies and if they will finally be able to work out their differences and be together.
Charlie Cochet has this way about her writing that sucks in the reader and makes them fall in love with her books. I know that is what she did to me and I have been hooked ever since. I look forward to each new release by Charlie. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. Her books are incredible and each new book no matter the series just keeps getting better and better, can’t wait for the next book to come out. It cannot come soon enough.
