Mob enforcer Ceaton Mercer has killed a lot of people in a lot of different ways – he stashed the last two bodies in a toolshed belonging to a sweetheart marine researcher in an idyllic island community – but he’s really not such a bad guy. Over time he’s found a home of sorts, and he even learns he’s found a place in the hearts of the people he works with…at least enough so that they won’t put a bullet in his head because he’s outlived his usefulness to the boss.

But he never thought he’d find one day could change his life, and he’s about to discover how wrong he is.

Because in a single day, he meets the man who looks to be the one, the love of his life. It’s an improbable idea – a man who deals in death finding love – but it’s like it’s meant to be. That single day gets weirder and troubles pile up, forcing Ceaton to take a hard look at his dreary life and accept that one day can change everything, especially himself. His future might be brighter than he expects – if he can stay alive long enough to find out.

Mary Calmes is one of my favorite writers in the m/m genre and I was thrilled when I got the alert for her new mafia romance. ‘A Day Makes’ is literally based on one, single day when Ceaton Mercer’s life changes completely as he finally finds his ‘One True Love’.

But before that one special day, we get a comprehensive backstory of Ceaton Mercer, an ex-marine and currently an enforcer for the Serbian mob. Ceaton is deadly, loyal and utterly gorgeous. He is one bad boy you can’t help but fall in love with. Besides him, we are treated to the supporting characters, fellow enforcers and Ceaton’s dear friends, Pravi, Luka and Marko. They always have each others back and would die for each other.

Grigor, Ceaton’s boss depends on him for anything important and throughout the first half we see how Ceaton has gained that trust along with his band of brothers. And then the day comes when Ceaton is ordered to babysit a person. The guy’s name is Brinley and once Ceaton lays his eyes on him, all bets are off. Its ‘insta love’ in its complete gorgeous glory. I like romance development in my story but I did not feel like I lost out on something here. This book is like an introduction to something more that has yet to happen. Brin and Ceaton were great. They were so into each other which would have been totally ‘meh’ but Ms. Calmes manages to make it interesting and sensuous that you will forget the fact that they have known each other for only one day.

And then there is the twist at the end which was totally awesome and ratcheted up my anticipation for the later books in the series. It’s going to be a wild ride and I can’t wait.

The romance here happens in one day so it is kind of a slow-burn with lots of action, banter, heady kisses and then one scorching sex scene that was completely worth the wait. I wanted more but I guess I have to wait for the next book.

If you are looking for a mob-series with ample action, tough guys, bad boys with a gooey heart and lots of passion then this is the book you want to read.
