SSA Rain Christiansen used to be the agency’s golden boy. It just takes one moment of weakness, one slight, tiny, itty-bitty paranormal sighting, and all of a sudden he’s the agency’s embarrassment. His boss gives him one last chance to redeem himself—go down to Brickell Bay, play nice with the local police, and leave the ghost sightings behind. Rain is determined to do exactly that, even if it kills him.

Cold-case detective Daniel McKenna’s latest investigation is going nowhere fast. Five years earlier, high school student Amy Greene went missing after leaving her part-time job and was never seen again. Daniel is glad to finally have the FBI help that his department requested, even if it does come in the form of his ex.

It doesn’t help that Rain is pretty sure he’s falling in love with Danny all over again—if he ever stopped. Add to that the frustration of seeing ghosts at every turn while he works a case that’s stalled in its tracks, and Rain is starting to wonder if second chances and happy endings are just for fairy tales.

I was a bit disappointed in the romance, but the mystery, ghosts, and Rain really made up for that, so I ended up enjoying the heck out of this.

Rain is an agent for the FBI, but ever since he let slip he can see ghosts his boss is not happy with him. That’s how Rain finds himself on a plane to his hometown to assist in a 5 year old cold case, where he has to work closely with his ex…

Rain was a great character. I didn’t always like the way he handled things, but he was such a funny character that I could not help but like him.

Danny on the other hand.. he was very hard to like. I could understand where he was coming from, but I wanted him to just forgive Rain and act nicer towards him.

And I was really missing some romantic parts in this romance. I don’t like most of the second chance romances, and this was exactly why I don’t like them. Danny was angry at Rain for most of this book for leaving him 3 years earlier. And Rain was trying to protect himself and not fall for Danny again. So these guys were not too happy with each other, and I was having a hard time seeing why they would even like each other, let alone be in love with each other.

But that being said…. the rest of this book was amazing. The fact that I still gave it 4 stars despite me not liking the romance, is really saying something, since I only read books for the romance. (This book is not heavy on the sex, although there are two sex scenes in, it’s just not the main focus.)

I loved the mystery, and the way the ghosts played a huge part in that. Despite this book being about ghosts, this is not a creepy story, and Rain was such a funny character that I really enjoyed being in his head for a few hours.

If the romance just had a tad more hearts and flowers, this book would have been perfect. But despite that, this was still an amazing read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really hope the author writes a sequel. I want more Rain and Danny ghost stories.
