Thank you so much for having me here today to talk about my first audiobook release, Training Season, narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo. I asked some of my fans of the book Training Season what they would like to know regarding the audiobook version and I answer some of their question below.
How much additional information about the characters did you have to provide for Michael? Was there a lot of guidance or are the outstanding characterizations his own interpretation of your novel?
I gave Michael very little information to go on. I told him that Matty is pretty effeminate and that Rob was not. Otherwise, I let him feel his own way through it. He did such a great job! It was like rediscovering my own book all over again when I listened to the final product.
How did you feel when you first heard the audio version of your story? Are there challenges you face by turning over a voice you hear in your head and letting someone else bring it to life?
The process of taking auditions was quite fascinating. I found that if the voice was very far off what I’d imagined I couldn’t even listen to the whole clip they sent. Sometimes shivers would go up my spine, and, frankly, it was deeply uncomfortable. I actually dreaded opening up each audition to have a listen because it was so unsettling when it was very wrong. But, when I heard the right voice? It was a whole different story! Then I didn’t want the audition clip to end!
I think the biggest challenge for many writers might be letting go of their creation enough to let someone else play with it, but I didn’t actually struggle with that myself. Once I had a voice and a talented narrator that I knew could handle everything about the book, from the femme guy, to the rancher, to the BDSM scenes, etc, then I was able to relax and let Michael do this thing.
Would you use Michael for another of your stories or do you think a change of narrator would work better with different characters and storyline?
I would absolutely use Michael again for another book but not for just any book. I think he’d be great for the book I just released in May, Slow Heat, but I don’t plan to get that out into audio any time particularly soon. It’s a quite long book, so it would be expensive to have him record it.
My next audiobook release will be Will & Patrick Wake Up Married, narrated by newcomer Jason Mitchell. When his audition came through for the serial, I almost burst into tears because he was so perfect for the character of Patrick. I’m hopeful that, while he’s unknown, readers/listeners will give the serial a try!
Thank you again for having me here today! I appreciate the time and effort you put into helping authors and readers promote and locate books!

A Montanan rancher and a flamboyant figure skater find lust, then love, but can they find a life together?
Unquestionably talented figure skater Matty Marcus is willing to sacrifice everything for his Olympic dream, but his lack of discipline cost him the gold once before. Now the pressure’s on. He needs a coach who can keep him in line, but top coaches don’t come cheap, and Matty can’t afford to stay in the game no matter how badly he wants to win.
When a lucrative house-sitting gig brings him to rural Montana, Matty does his best to maintain his training regimen. Local residents turn out to be surprisingly tolerant of his flamboyant style, especially handsome young rancher Rob Lovely, who proves to be much more than a cowboy stereotype. Just as Matty requires a firm hand to perform his best on the ice, Rob shows him how strong he can be when he relinquishes control in the bedroom. With new-found self-assurance, he drives himself harder to go straight to the top.
But competition has a timetable, and to achieve his Olympic dream, Matty will have to join his new coach in New York City, leaving Rob behind. Now he must face the ultimate test. Has he truly learned how to win – on and off the ice – during his training season?
This book contains BDSM elements.
