With the world in chaos around us, the only thing I could do was try to keep Felix safe as we searched for our older brother. We’d been traveling for over two years, searching Ministry camp after Ministry camp and trying to steer clear of the Rebels. I didn’t know what to do when we ran into a whole group of shifters with guns. But then, the huge, gorgeous guy that found us did the unthinkable…
At first I thought the two young shifters were trying to sneak up on me, but I soon realized they were only passing through. I was going to send them on their way until I heard the others coming. What was I supposed to do? How else was I supposed to save them? The delicious man and his brother would’ve been killed had I not claimed him.
Will Nate and Tre be able to work together to keep themselves and their packmates alive? Or will they let the cruelty of the outside world tear them apart?
***How We Survive is the first book in the Reclaiming Hope series, but is a standalone novel. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but the couples will show up throughout the series. It’s a paranormal shifter romance between two men with explicit language and graphic sex intended for Adults Only.***
Warning: Torture, murder (not graphic, but includes a brief mention of a teenage boy) and slight hint/background knowledge of noncon.
Okay, I know the author states that book two is “Coming Soon”, but for me it’s not fast enough! Holy shit is this book good. Where to start?!? Okay, first I will state that this isn’t your typical shifter book. So yeah, be ready. There is a bit of insta-feelings, but not how you are thinking/use to. In addition, this isn’t a typical AO story. In fact, Alpha is the only title used and it seems to have more to do with personality than anything. The one thing that seems the same is the existence of “True Mates”.
The author does a wonderful job creating the world that these shifters, humans and other supernatural beings live in. If you are a person that needs instant information then this book might annoy you. See, the author gives the reader only so much, which in turn kept me reading; needing to know. Of course this book ends on a cliffhanger; not concerning the romance aspect, but to the underlying plot and supporting characters in their pack.
There really is so much going on in this story. IMO the story isn’t too long and flowed really well. For instance, there are two factions up against one another: The Rebels and The Ministry. Be patient, all will be revealed in the end about these two groups. In addition, there is more to Felix, Nate’s brother, not shifting. Not to mention, an evil shifter from Patrick’s past comes into play a couple of times in the story. Then there is a revelation that Patrick has near the end, which of course sets it up nicely for the next book in the series. Honestly, I caught on to this pretty quickly. Last, but certainly not least is Ronan, Nate and Felix’s older brother whom they are searching for. That is another aspect of the story, and I have to admit, something I am very interested in.
My only question is what happened to their packmate Cameron near the end. All are accounted for except for him. Hmmmm….. Other than that and a bit of repetition, this is an amazing start to this series and I cannot wait to read what happens next.
