Jaden Matthews has never known his father or his father’s family, but he’s about to get a crash course on having siblings. With the recent passing of his grandmother, he’s discovered he has three half-brothers and part ownership of a gym. In Serenity, Florida. His life in New York has hit a rocky road, so maybe this is the vacation he needs to get things back on track.
Chase Michaels lost his future in a car crash almost ten years ago, and he’s made a new one for himself in Serenity. One that doesn’t include getting emotionally involved with people who are just passing through. But Jaden makes his common sense flee and his gut react. He’s got one month with the man who made him believe in taking a chance.
From the moment Jaden comes to Serenity, Florida he’s welcomed, helped, and included.
I loved Harding’s initial descriptions of Florida and Jaden’s thoughts about the area and animals. I pretty much chuckled whenever it was brought up. As a Florida girl I could appreciate it, you know what I mean?
Jaden gets to know the three half-brothers he never knew he had, and gets to know the grandmother who died and left him a piece of her business and home.
Chase, who is friends with Jaden’s brothers and helps Jaden when he first arrived in town, is interested in Jaden from the start, and their romance moved along pretty organically.
“I’m comfortable with you. With each day I show you a little more .” He kissed Chase’s Adam’s apple and then sighed a warm puff of air onto Chase’s neck. “You make me want to indulge my inner dork. I’ve worked really hard to suppress him, you know?”
Chase’s heart felt like it cracked right down the center. He tugged Jaden in, swallowing him in a tight hug. He was overwhelmed by too many emotions at once. He wanted to hide his expression before it revealed all of his feelings to Jaden and complicated this even more . He buried his face against Jaden’s neck. “I know.”
This is a really quiet romance. There’s no drama or anything moving the story forward…it just progresses along without conflict.
Told from both Jaden and Chase’s perspective, I enjoyed the dual POV and getting to know both characters. They each open up to each other as they go along, falling a little bit more for each along the way, even though they both said they wouldn’t.
“I fucking love you. You came into my life and knocked every last one of my walls down in about five seconds flat. I completely lost my mind over you. I want to split Chinese takeout with you after a long day of work. And I want you to meet my cat, because she’s a perfect, evil angel. You can hog the bed and steal the covers. I want it all.”
This is a sweet, no angst, no drama, romance with likable characters and a lovely HEA that would be a perfect summer read for the beach.
