To be loved by a dragon is to be treasured.
A hundred years ago, werewolf Alpha Montgomery took a risk driven by desperation—he borrowed money from the ancient dragon Warwick Ehecatl, putting up the pack lands as collateral. Now the debt is due, and dragons don’t forget—or forgive. Warwick demands Montgomery’s son, Avery, and three businesses as compensation. As an Omega, Avery knows he is basically useless to his pack, so he might as well agree. He soon has second thoughts, though. Warwick is fearsome, and he’s free to do as he likes with Avery.
Warwick knows his race’s reputation, and he even admits some of it is deserved. But he’d rather cut off his tail than let his innocent mate’s light go out. It won’t be easy, but buried deep, there’s something between them worth safeguarding.
Warwick is an ancient dragon shifter who has so much power no one would dare cross him. One day Alpha Montgomery of the local wolf pack loans a great deal of money from Warwick, but when the time is up to pay up, the wolf admits he doesn’t have the money.
And that’s why Warwick is at the pack house, to collect his money or take the land the wolves live on. But one look at the Alpha’s Omega son and Warwick knows he has to have him as his mate. So instead of paying back the money the Alpha agrees to ‘give away’ his son.
Avery is not happy his father just hands him over like that. He can’t believe his father didn’t at least try to pay the dragon back. He had a hundred years! But now that he is promised to the dragon, he knows he has to make the best of it. Except one look and Avery knows he has found his true mate. And that’s why he can’t be sad about the arrangement.
Warwick and Avery meet to get to know each other and it is clear both really want this, whatever it is between them. They sure have enough chemistry, that’s for sure..
I liked how big bad dragon Warwick went all soft and tender whenever he was around Avery. He really wanted the Omega to like him and not be forced to be with him. And Avery was just adorable. Since Omegas were to be virgin until they mated, Avery was still pretty innocent. But he knew he wanted Warwick and wasn’t too shy about it.
This was pretty fluffy and had no relationship angst.. This was high on the insta love, as with almost all shifter books, but that wasn’t a problem for me at all. These guys were cute together and the sexy times were pretty decent too.
There was something that bothered me throughout this though.
“I need a loan.”
“Most people do when they come to me.” Precise and to the point. He liked that. Warwick opened a desk drawer and withdrew several forms.
Alpha Montgomery quoted a sum, and Warwick lifted a shapely eyebrow. Surprising a dragon wasn’t easy.
“Hmm, let’s see.” He listed his favorites, and Avery nodded. After they decided, Warwick laid the menu down and the waiter miraculously appeared. He repeated what he and Avery wanted, then selected a good red wine to go with it. Once the waiter had their orders, he took the menus and left.
I hate it when authors do this. I’m not a child, I am allowed to know the amount that was loaned, you know. And I know some books have too many details, but saying something like ‘he listed his favorites’ and ‘they ordered’ is not cutting it for me. I need more than this. I need to feel like I’m there. And reading about what they’re having for dinner helps with that. Now I was just guessing what they were eating.
But other than that this was quite the feel good book, so I did enjoy it overall.
