MY POP’S A TOP is a witty, picture book penned from the point of view of a young African-American boy growing up in a same-sex couple household.

The book is 18 lines of rhyme, with fun, innocent-looking illustrations about the boy and his gay fathers — “Pop” – a hot Latino, and “Daddy”– an older Caucasian man.

This bawdy, naughty, non-PC tale, is definitely NOT a bedtime story for youngsters. Instead, it’s for adult readers who are not easily offended by blunt, sexually-charged material.

I’m not quite how to categorize this book! Is it humor? Satire? Parody? As the author so succinctly says “This is a work of smut.” I liked the colorful illustrations by Troy McKenny that fit with the simple text. This take-off on those Little Golden Books we all grew up with is quirky and funny and a great gift item!

Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.  Frederick Douglas

I distinctly remember that day in school when, all of a sudden, those squiggles on the page made sense and I could read. It has changed my life in ways I still cannot comprehend.

My favorite M/M tropes are friends-to-lovers, murder/mysteries, amnesia, hurt/healing and historicals. Shifters, vampires, paranormal? Meh … not in my wheelhouse, but I’m a sucker for a well-written well-plotted book, no matter the genre.

Favorite authors includes Brandon Witt, Rick R. Reed, Abigail Roux, Jay Northcote, JL Merrow, KJ Charles, Lane Hayes, Marshall Thornton and so many more.
